Continuation from sandwich thread.

Had business in Lakewood Sat. aft. Found Melt. Unbelievable.

Normally do not solicit the helps idea's or sometime's to be gracious ask and then make my own selection.

Being slightly overwhelmed with the magnitude of the menu I went in both directions. It was late morning so the dude recommened the wake & bake and I demolished the thing with a smile the whole time. Had not an ounce of hunger throughout the day.

Had the Parma, Italy waiting in the car for the ride home. Could only eat half. Just finished the other half as Sunday dinner and was compelled to do this infomercial for the joint.

Now comes the hard part. How do I justify once a month or every other month driving an hour for a dam sangwich.

There are plenty of good eats out there and this place ranks up there with them all. Not happy about missing the fried twinkie on the menu and another good reason to have a phone that gets the internet. If only I could have researched the link before ordering.

Needless to say I'm back there first chance I get.

Sammiches are ridiculous. Staff very friendly in a water bong by the time clock kinda way. They pour heavy handed. And have the best beer selection in NE OH.

I'll be having my first Melt experience in Dec.

Pretty excited about it.

Last two times I've ordered food from Melt, the sandwiches were slightly undercooked. My theory is that they're doing that on purpose to speed up the kitchen a bit.

They're still amazing (and it makes leftovers even better), but they're F'ing with the wrong thing there, I think. But because they're so amazing, all I'd ever do about it is add 5 minutes of cooking time in the oven when I get home to the 45-60min wait for the takeout. To stop eating there is simply not an option.

Heard that from somebody recently as well. But they said it really doesn't make a difference b/c it is so good it doesn't take but a couple minutes to devour the stuff anyway,

On a mission to try everything on their menu. Getting at least one thing a week , two if I have the time.

Place got a ton of love. Piece came out about as favorably as possible.

Also ... opening scene, Fieri in the back parking lot, the second floor window in the building behind em ... that was my office window. Shoulda hung a TheClevelandFan.com sign out there.

You wanna get lunch there and not wait, you gotta be there by like 11:20 anymore. It's insane. Don't even slowdown from 2-4 PM these days.

Saw the DDD on Melt and thought the chef/owner was a little aggressive with the typically jovial Fieri. Don't know why, but the way he postured and repeatedly took a dominant physical position in relation to Fieri was telling of his personality. Not that I blame him- his business is on the line every day and he wants to express his vision. Plus, no one opens Melt without the stones and aggressive personality required to succeed. The kitchen-side portion of the piece just played a little awkward, IMO.

Went down the street to Buckeye beer Engine. Food was great
Started off with onions rings that I could swear weighed about 1 pound each.
Got the Cyclops burger. Sunnyside egg, thick bacon, and cheese. Awesome beer selection, so many that the beer menu was about 6 pages.
Highly recommended.
Melt will have to wait.

I admit I have never gone, I tried once over Christmas break when driving through and the wait was an hour and a half so I just went to Dave's Cosmic subs instead. However, who the hell waits 3 hours for a sandwich. Is it really THAT good? To waste an 1/8th of your day just simply waiting for a sandwich. With a three hour wait you would basically have to get in line immediately after lunch to eat by 6. A lot of great food in Cleveland, I couldnt justify 3 hours.

Buckeye Beer Engine is solid. Great beer selection. Sammiches are nothing like The Melt though. Gotta go on off times to get in the Melt. 5 PM on a Saturday is insanity. Between 2-4 PM. Or very early for lunch, like 11:15-11:30.

Bad thing is once you get seated, you wait another 45 min for your chizz platter...

Like Swerb said, gotta get there early and stay away from weekends...

Bt the time we were done eating and at our friends house around the corner, we would have STILL been waiting for a table. Our friends got to Melt at 4:30 to try and grab us a table. Who in their right mind would wait that long?? The friends that we were with stated that some of the food at Buckeye Beer was better than Melt's. Guess I'll have to wait to find out.

I'm half way through the entire menu from the Melt, just finished the Lake Erie Monster, good sandwich. Very substantial piece of walleye, American cheese on toasted bread with a jalapeno tartar sauce (never had tartar like that before) and a dry slaw.

It's relative to the crowd & wait inside I imagine, I waited 1 hour for carry out when the wait to dine in was 2 hours.

The will call if your order is done significantly sooner than originally expected.

FWIW kind of dumb of me to say the fish was on toasted bread, duh, all grilled cheese is toasted.

Couple things in relation to recent posts.

Should have looked at thread before going for lunch the other day, let dude taking my carryout order recommend and ended up with The Godfather (go figure) good but not great. A little dry.
Would definitely have gone with Swerbs West Side Monte Cristo selection.

Carryout is the only thing that makes sense traveling from Y town.

Melt.com has a countdown for the East Side and right now is looking like the high 30's in days.

Something about the place and the satisfaction of the smile it puts on your face after the first bite that gives it a little more than just being a sandwich.

Beer selection is off the charts. Beer menu is like a novel. Liek 30 on draft, 150 in the bottle. Menu sorts em by country, type, and lists the alcohol content of every one.

I love when you order a beer so strong it only comes in a max 8 oz pour in one of those brandy snifter type glasses.

Words to the wise on seating situation. Went today for lunch, a Friday...

Walked in at 11:10 AM, they had just seated the last duece for lunch. Bar was wide open, full menu. Sat at bar, bar was full by 11:25. Even for lunch, get there early.

Had the May special: Prime Time Prime Rib Melt Sandwich and a St. Bernardus 12. It was as good as it sounds. A+

Seeing your response makes what happened at Chipotle all the more F'd up. In line I see a guy with a Melt kitchen shirt on. So I say wTF and told the same story as above, he looks as me like WTF. He said he was just there and things seemed OK, knew of some minor issues but heard nothing of no carry outs and closing early. Then tells me he's going back to investigate before he heads to the east side location where he runs the kitchen. He hands me a card and says before you pay for your burrito man up and take a ride to C.Hts. If Chipotle didn't make me the biggest burrito ever seen I just might have made the drive. Side note, did you know if the burrito has a tear in it as they wrap it they will re-wrap it for you? JFC I've heard of service but damn that is good, I said don't bother considering what I am going to do to that thing.

90 minute wait at the Hts location after Sunday's Tribe game. Intersting they put it in the low rent Taylor Rd district.

I don't care what the hype is, ain't no fakkin' sammich worth waiting 90 minutes. Not like it's a steak, gormet burger, deep dish, BBQ or something special. Walked right into the CPK in the high rent district instead.

Agree they should have gotten closer to Fairmount and Cedar, or somewhere on Coventry. Although that Taylor Road area needed some help, and it is a prime loaction between JCU and Case Western.

The east side one seats more than the Lakewood one, which is tiny. I've heard the waits are crazy though.

Went to the Lakewood one for the first time in about 6 weeks yesterday ... they were on an hour wait at 11:25 AM. We got lucky and bogarted a couple bar stools after only waiting like 5 min.

Tore up the Smokey Russian. Turkey, gouda, napa valley kraut, and 1000 island. Good lord is that a good sandwich.
