Of course that's ranking the city proper of Cleveland, not the Cleveland metro area. Most large metro areas have core cities with a much geographically larger, and economically diverse, area.

Another "Bash Cleveland" report. Wow. These people continue to report how 'Bad in Winter' Cleveland is.. or how miserable we are.. (Hmmm.. Being able to Ski in the Winter... I'm not miserable, my children aren't miserable... in fact, I like being able to ski within an hour of my home.). And, My home (yes, it is in a suburb.... and, I am amazed when I see the same sort of suburb/home on HGTV shows going for 300K +. My GORGEOUS Home is in a REASONABLE neighborhood... Does that make me miserable? Heck No. I love living here ! ! Affordable... and, saving for retirement with the $$ I'm saving by not living in one of your overpriced other cities ! ! ! ) As a Second Generation Clevelander, I can only say, I've been other places, and continue to return here. Employment can be found, We have wonderful Theater, WE HAVE pro-sports, (Hmmm.. Cav's.. know of them?) The 'Lake' It is NOT a Mistake. Ask any Boater - Power or Sailor who utilizes this wonderful resource. As for commute times, they are not as bad as other cities. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE! I deal with it.. and even in snow storms - which, By the way, THANK YOU ODOT for your continuous dedication to keeping our roads clean. :-) As for Crime, Name a city that does not have it ?

As for the ones of you ranking us #1 and miserable... HAHAHAHA (Laughing.. as I'm NOT miserable, nor are many of those who I know... who can make a decent living, live in a decent neighborhood and have our kids attend excellent schools!) I can thank you for your misconceived reports... this way, not too many people want to flood our city who wouldn't appreciate it !

I've lived in Memphis, and it wasn't too bad. There are some rough areas for sure, but downtown is decent and there are some nice outlying neighborhoods. There's gotta be more than 2 shittier places out there somewhere.

It is a real have or have not city. There is a pocket of wealth from downtown to the north side. The west or south sides are as miserable as it gets. Besides I think they took in to account weather and sports.

I believe Forbes just recycles the same lists and applies it to whatever asshat editor decides that day. Every list created by them (seriously, there has been at least 2 other lists recently posted on this board) lists Cleveland as the worst this or the worst that. We get it Forbes, you think Cleveland is worst. I think your magazine is the worst, a useless rag better suited to line the cage of my puppy learning to be potty trained. If you look at the top 20 version every big city in Ohio except Columbus and Cincy is on the list. (Akron, Youngstown, Toledo)

I left in '79 and never looked back. I miss the ethnic neighborhoods, the food, and the culture but you have to work and there isn't much for gainful employment up there. City never transitioned from heavy industry/manufacturing to anything. Chicken and potato chips, Ross Perot was clairvoyant.

This is what I don't get. I've brought friends in from out of town, and they've left genuinely impressed with Cleveland, and often counter to their preconceptions. But still we have this bad rap in the national media.

If Cleveland were on one of the coasts, we'd have a much better rep. Can't blame it all on a midwest-bias though, Cleveland needs to get a PR department bad.

That is completely untrue. There have been several recent articles that have highlighted Cleveland's diversification away from manufacturing. Our unemployment rate is at the national average, not above it. Things aren't great here, but they're a long long way from '79
