You talking about him saying fucking retarded? The Obama administration must really hate people with disabilities after this and Barry's Special Olympics bowling comments.

Whatever, I am not going to cast the first stone, I've said it, however I have tried to get it out of my vocabulary. Said retarded once in front a girl at work who I consider a friend who has a brother with Downs, talk about feeling like an ass. So ever since that I have been trying to cut it out. That said, I do believe the meaning of the world has sort of transformed like when people say "thats gay" or something along those lines. Not PC, but I also feel that most people who use the world "gay" or "retard" aren't actually using them in that way.

No they're not. It's just become a common insult that's intrenched in the American lexicon. I have no problem with any of them. I say retarded all the time, in fact I say alot of things that are racists and homophobic, despite the fact i'm neither.

I agree that a blanket "that's retarded" or "he's retarded" is not socially acceptable. It's a say at your own risk phrase. Say it if you want, but don't be surprised if you hurt somebody's feelings with it. Whether you give a shit about their hurt feelings is your deal.

BUT... I always thought the word "retarded" could be used to describe something without an allusion to the mentally handicapped... i.e. "His devopment as a shooter was retarded by a shoulder injury." Meaning slowed or hindered, not mentally handicapped.

As always, it's about context... and I hate to see a good word dragged through the mud.

As for the Rahm part... I can't say I even give a hang. Sarah Palin calling for Rahm's job in return for him calling a bunch of liberal activists "f'ing retarded" in a private conversation? (Head Explosion)

Washington politicos remind me of a bunch of second graders ratting each other out after school. What we end up with in DC are a bunch of droids hiding from microphones and sneaking smokes off camera. Then we wonder why they are out of touch... because we let these stories live.

I understand where you're coming from. To be honest, I don't really concern myself with what's socially acceptable. Now that doesn't mean I go walking down the street yelling "retard" or what not. At home with my friends we say some of the most awful things to each other, then we laugh about it. My Jewish buddy calls me a "dumb kraut sasquatch" all the time, so I like to get his attention by rubbing two pennies together. I say offensive shit, it's just not a big deal to me.

+1, LMAO.. At 7 am, this is even funnier..

I hear ya, CDT, my japanese friend and I trade insults that would make most people's hair curl. Just the most insulting, insensitive stuff but we end up in tears because of laughing by the end of it.

As for the rest of it, I understand how these words can affect people but consider the source. Either the person is saying it out of ignorance, hatred, or frustration of the moment. In any case, ignore em and get back to a good place. Focusing on all those lobbing stupid terms and insults will eat a person alive.

In many ways, it's like how some brothers have told me they view being African-American. You have the way you talk to your bois and you have your job interview language. You just know what world you're in.

Being PC all the time is retarded.

Nice one. or, Acting PC all the time is so Gay. I would imagine today's utes being much more tolerable and accepting about same sex stuff than our generation (as a whole, not pointing fingers). Yet they think nothing of dropping "that's so Gay" every 5 minutes. My wife made the kids stop saying it, and I said why? She gave her answer and said "that's so gay". Got a laugh out of the kids anyway though momma wasn't happy. My kids can't say retarded either because my nephew is 18 and autistic and can't take care of himself. I understand momma's reasoning but Jesus I hate seeing two boys walk around on egg-shells wondering what might offend queen bee.

I'd be willing to bet she agrees with Palin, I'll have to ask...

I agree with it being uncouth in a public setting. Was it said in a public setting?

Is schizophrenia considered a form of retardation?

Do you think Rahm should lose his job over this?

Mental illness isn't the same as retarded.

Rahm just needs to tell Palin she's F'n retarded.

I think you're a wee bit offbase, JB.

Palin isn't retarded. She's just folksy, which can be confused with retardation. ;-) ;)

Thinking is always your first mistake and you should be advised that the smell of your burning flesh preceded your post by 24 hrs...

I was under the impression that TO BE the Biggest Dick here one would have to be voted upon and appointed and crowned by the class

In my case I just hold title of 'having' the biggest dick

...any event, I'm surprised that one so easily offended saw such promise in what I edited out just to be a nice guy and palcate politically correct sissies like yourself

Hope that helps

The Daily Show killed this last night.

http://www.thedailyshow.com/

Lewis Black came on and pimped his "tard strong" bracelet. Stewart killed Palin for her "palm pilot" (which, by the way, if she gets RNC nod, will be a comic gold mine as she is a moron). Great stuff.

As to the gay/ retard thing, it's a daily struggle to correct adolescents when they use those terms. Nearly impossible. While I personally use these terms to describe lame and stupid (respectively) things or people, never at school. It's so pervasive that most kids don't even know they said anything offensive, and get pissed when I correct them.
