Music Game for Here. Show us what's on your iPod

Unread postby Guest » Wed Feb 03, 2010 3:30 pm

This was stolen from something I found on facebook almost a year ago, but I think it would be interesting here to see where everyone is at regarding musical taste.

The Rules
1. Take your iPod (or MP3...whatever), and put it on shuffle.

2. Write down the first 15 sounds that show up...no cheating by cherrypicking what you want to show. If you actually have Barry Manilow on your iPod, then you should man up, and take the chance of it showing up.

3. First exception. You are allowed ONE skip to save embarrassment. So you can skip Barry, but when that Lionel Ritchie song come up, you're screwed

4. Second exception...don't repeat artists. With the size of today's devices, we realize that you could have 7 Coldplay albums on your iPod...I don't want to see 15 Coldplay songs...we get the idea after only one.

I'll start it (bear in mind that I almost NEVER contribute to music threads, as I am universally ridiculed for my musical tastes).

1. Dixie Chicks - The Long Way Around
2. Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight
3. Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road.
4. Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin
5. Vega4 - Life is Beautiful
6. Glenn Hansard - Fallen from the Sky ("Once" Soundtrack)
7. Linkin Park - What I've Done
8. Jane Siberry with kd landg - Calling All Angels (song used at the end of the Deadwood episode where Bullock's stepson was killed)
9. Athenaeum - Flat Tire
10. David Bowie with Freddie Mercury - Under Pressure
11. The Motels - Only the Lonely
12.The Association - Requiem for the Masses
13. Michael Stipe with Chris Martin - In the Sun
14. Chantal Kreviazuk - Surrounded
15. Edwin McCain - I Could not Ask for More

Sling away with those comments...you now know the reason why Swerb doesn't have me write anything about music.

I also usually don't do these things because I know my taste in music is odd and probably crappy. But, I listen to my iPod at work, so why not...

Caveat, I have an iPod touch with all the apps and what not so I "only" keep a few GB of music on here, which is handpicked, so it's not a true random sample of what I own. But, here's what I've got:

The Eagles - Lyin Eyes
Ben Folds - Rockstar
Steve Earle - Jericho Road
Tegan & Sara - We Didn't Do It
Oasis - Live Forever
Dave Matthews Band - Squirm
The Fray - Dead Wrong
John Mayer - Not Myself
Luna Halo - On Your Side
Ray LaMontagne - You Are The Best Thing
Brandi Carlile - Dying Day
Derek Trucks Band - All I Do
Keane - We Might As Well Be Strangers
U2 - Desire
The Cure - Pictures of You

 Well.... remember guys that I am an almost-30-year-old female. If that at all explains what may or may not come up.

I have 1500+ songs on my iPod Touch so this may not be indicative of the scope of music I have and like. I have a number of comedy albums too, so some may not be songs:

1. Modest Mouse - "Float On"
2. TLC - "No Scrubs"
3. Janet Jackson - "What About"
4. Wang Chung - "Everybody Have Fun Tonight"
5. Kenny Loggins - "I'm Alright"
6. New Edition - "Mr. Telephone Man"
7. Rodney Carrington - "Tee Off" - told ya... comedy album
8. The Beach Boys - "Good Vibrations"
9. David Gray - "This Years Love"
10. Metallica - "Enter Sandman"
11. Garth Brooks - "Callin' Baton Rouge"
12. Kings of Leon - "Closer"
13. AC/DC - "Back in Black"
14. Peter Cetera - "Daddy's Girl" - the song from Three Men and a Baby with the three guys in the park & pool with Mary
15. INXS - "Devil Inside"

That didn't turn out near as bad as I thought it would.

okay, here it goes...

Ministry - Jesus built my hotrod
Phoenix- Too young
John Travolta - Let her in
Ice Cube- No vaseline
The Waterboys -This is the sea
Pavement - Cut your hair
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers -You got lucky
Helmet- Give it
The D.O.C.- It's funky enough
Supertramp- Goodbye stranger
Berlin - The Metro
Afghan Whigs-Debonair
Elton John- Levon
Styx- Fooling yourself(angry young man)
The Smiths-Heaven knows I'm miserable now

Not the finest selection but that's the downfall of the shuffle...
Galley Boys are slop on top of a so-so burger and a bun you coulde get from a Covneninet food mart generic pack. They the Antoine Joubert of burgers; soft, sloppy, oozing grease and cheap sauce and extremely overrated by a biased fan base. Proof that if you throw enough cheap sauce shit on a burger you still can't overcome the lame burger. -JB

You were given a skip, and yet that one's still there?

What did you miss, David Soul with "Don't Give Up On Us, Baby". ;-) ;)

(Yes, I realize that I have absolutely NO room to talk. I'm just glad my song from "Rent" or one of my three Sarah Brightman/Andrew Lloyd Webber songs didn't show).

I was waiting for CDT's. I knew there would be a bunch of stuff I'd never heard of. Now I can go look it up and download the cool stuff.

CDT - read the directions, dude. You're supposed to skip repeat bands. You owe us 2 more. (God I hope one of them is James Blunt)

What sucks about John Mayer is that the guy is gifted, he could make incredible music, but instead he wants to be Jackson Browne Junior. Kind of a waste.

No doubt, that's the song that got me hooked on Skynyrd. My 16th was "That Smell", which is no where near as good but has one of the greatest opening lines in rock history.

Not, but I enjoy fight songs and most of the Patriotic stuff from the military. It would be the best fight song in college football.

Nice to see muni with some Traffic.

John Barley Corn but i had to check my cd's because I thought it was Low spark. I burned both CD's on to one CD and they fit. Amazing what passed as a full album back in the day. revolver and rubber soul are about 35 min each.

Yeah but most of those albums back in the day contained all good songs not like today's CDs with one or two decent songs and the rest filler. The "album concept" is kind of lost today too in the ipod shuffle. Any of you guys old enough to remember when rock first made its transition from AM radio to FM? They used to play whole album sides on WMMS.

Pretty diverse group here and a good thread.

Speaking of the Firm. Did you know that Jimmy Page wrote the song Midnight Moon Light when he was in Led Zeppelin under a different title? It was to be called Swan Song.

Glad to see some other Warren fans here. Saw him several times downtown and he never disappointed. I still have a tough time listening to "Keep Me in Your Heart"........Left much too early

Hey Mutt: You remember WIXY 1260 and CKLW 800 (Detroit)?

And then WMMS has strong competition from M105............

Werewolves Of London has one of my all time favorite lyrics, "I saw a Werewolf drinking a Pina Colada at Trader Vic's, and his hair was perfect".

I'm pretty sure CKLW was from across the lake in London or Windsor Ontario.
Speaking of old. Does anybody remember Music Carnival? They used to be near Northfield. Big acts like Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, and Yes used to play there back in the late sixties. My cousin used to live in the Watergate Apartments on Lakeshore and Eric Carmen and some of the Raspberrys lived down the hall.

I remember most of those $1.01 concerts and bitching about seeing Led Zeppelin at the Richfield Coliseum and having to fork over ten bucks to see them. My old stomping ground used to be the old Agora and the Pop Shop down in the basement.

I try to explain to people what the music scene was like up in Cleveland from the late sixties to mid eighties. We were pretty damned spoiled up there. That city rightfully deserves the hall of fame.
