2009 Fight of the Year?

Unread postby swerb » Mon Dec 21, 2009 4:11 pm

Real tough call this year. No clear cut favorite. A lot of great fights though.

I think these were my top 5 ... in no particular order:

Paul Williams/Sergio Martinez
Juan Manuel Marquez/Juan Diaz
Marcos Maidana/Victor Ortiz
Manny Pacquiao/Miguel Cotto
Juan Manuel Lopez/Rogers Mtagwa

Two I didn't see, heard they were excellent ...

Bernard Dunne/Ricardo Cordoba
Yonny Perez/Joseph Agbeko

Great knockouts/fights too one sided to be FOTY ...

Manny Pacquiao/Ricky Hatton
Arthur Abraham/Jermain Taylor
Shane Mosely/Antonio Margarito

Other real good fights from '09 ....

Carl Froch/Jermain Taylor
Miguel Cotto/Joshua Clottey
Andre Berto/Luis Collazo

Solid lists and not much objection here.

I'd put Froch/Taylor on the first list though...that one still sticks out in my mind as the most memorable/surreal.

I'm partial to Pacman vs. Cotto, personally.

How about worst fight of the year? Can't think of any from the top of my head but always find those interesting too.
Playing here is the closest thing to heaven. Really, I mean it's amazing to be in a place where the fans truly cherish their football team and stick behind them win or lose. We players love them, too. I feel a sense of accomplishment playing here, we are a special breed of football players with a great opportunity." ~ tOSU LB Brian Rolle

Worst fight of the year is a slam dunk for me as it was just a week ago.

Vitali Klitschko/Kevin Johnson was the worst fight I've watched in years, not just last year.

Johnson layed/leaned on the ropes for every second of 12 rounds and landed a total of 46 punches. You'd have more fun playing the drums with lightbulbs instead of drumsticks than watching that garbage for entainment.
