USA opens up against England, in what looks to be the controlling game of the group. Dodged a bullet with France and Portugal out there during the draw. Team USA has never played Algeria or Slovenia, so we'll see how the first meetings turn out.

Although this is a great draw, I hope the team doesn'g head into South Africa thinking an automatic move onto the round of 16. Any team in the World Cup has a good chance of pulling the upset, like USA has done in the past. Looks like the draw to make a deep run starting in June. Can't wait for it this year!

CAPE TOWN, South Africa -- The United States will play England, Slovenia and Algeria in the first round of next year's World Cup in what appears to be a relatively easy group.

The U.S. opens against England in Rustenburg on June 12, their first World Cup matchup since the Americans' 1-0 upset victory at the 1950 tournament in Brazil.

The United States then plays Slovenia at Johannesburg's Ellis Park on June 18 and completes the first round on June 23 with its first-ever match against Algeria in Pretoria.

Mexico was drawn Friday to meet South Africa in the tournament opener on June 11 in Johannesburg. El Tri then plays France and Uruguay.

Very good draw for the US. England will be tough as always, but not guaranteed a spot in the next round, either. Our chances are strong, and the team should be confident in advancing.

Early "Group of Death" talk surrounds Group B with Brazil and Portugal having to advance in a group with Ivory Coast's game changing striker Drogba and North Korea.
