espn 30 : 30 Jimmy the Greek

Did any of you catch that? I saw him as a TV figure as a kid, but I had no idea. I've had lot's of opportunity to be in the real 'ville lately and had no idea his roots were in Ohio. Amazing film. He changed the game. I'm going to fine his resting place like I did Paul Brown's.

Jessie J himself went to bat for the Greek but he was fucked.

Amazing work by ESPN. Love him or hate him he was far more iconic than I ever knew.

Fascinating. They broke the mold with the Greek, that's for sure.

He was broken at the end. He didn't deserve that fate. But maybe it was inevitable.

I caught the tail end of his career but remember the downfall very clearly. That was one of the biggest stories of the time. Phil Hartman's Jimmy the Greek on SNL was awesome.

Interesting life, but I didn't enjoy the voiceovers - was that an actor? Would have liked to have seen more archival interview w/ the Greek instead.

For as ahead of the game as he was I'm struck by how much money he left on the table by not franchising his name into sportsbooks.

Very entertaining but, like Cease, I could have done without the JtG actor portrayal in the voice overs.

Saw it and loved it too. Happened when I was young, didn't understand all of it then. I have a little more sympathy for the man after watching this.

As an aside, I am living all of these ESPN 30:30. I missed the one about Len Bias, will need look and see if they will repeat it the near future. May favorite one so far was the retrospective on the USFL, damn a lot of good players were in that league and those interviewed threw Trump under the bus for the league's everntual fold.
