Literally have not played a video game in five years. Know little about the current climate, cool games. One thing I do know is my kid desperately wants the Wii for XMas.

Looking for guidance. I've never played the Wii. What are good games for a 4.5 year old? What accessories do I need? What games would I have fun with? Thinking I gotta get Tiger Woods and one of the Rock Band games. Games still $50 a pop?

My niece and nephews have a Wii (ages 2-7) and they love it. There are alot of kids options for it. Our nephew plays Lego Star Wars/Indiana Jones, etc and there are also games for Dora/Diego.

Wii sports is included with the package, and Sports Resort is fun as well, both good for the kiddies. Games I'd suggest are TW 2010, Mario Kart and Link's Crossbow Training. Replay value is high on all 3, and TW and MK have online features to compete against other people.

Rock Band/ Guitar Hero are fun, but expensive as you have to buy the game and guitars/ drum kit.

Make sure to buy the extra Wiimote and nunchuck so you can play against someone. I would also suggest getting the rechargeable battery station, you will burn through batteries quickly.

Conduit is a good shooter game, the Resident Evil games are great too, but not for the kids.

My son absolutely loves all the Wii Sports games. They are really simplified, so it makes it easy for anyone to play them. Also loves the Lego games like Batman, Star Wars, and Indiana Jone. Rich, I know you are a Star Wars honk....I recommend you get that as not only will your kid enjoy it but you'll find yourself immersed in it and playing along with him (two players) as you go through all six movies with lots of humor added. Cool stuff.

Mario Kart is great for the kids too. And make sure you get the second remote and also a battery charger is a must!

The Wii is awesome.
Bought it last Christmas.
I was a little hesitant at first because I stopped playing video games for a few years.
My 11 year old can play her games and be active. Plus we can all bowl and do some of the other games together and have some fun.
The wife wanted the Wii Fit which we both do, love the Biggest Loser game.
It's good shit.

Dick, never ever ever ever buy a game new.

Take the kiddo to game stop, get a discount card, and let him pick from the used selection. Do it tgether and you'll have a blast. Mari cart might be a great choice in addition to what's been mentioned. Back Yard Football is good, too.

It is a good time too.

My kids love any of the Mario-based games.

Agreed with the above about never buying a game at full price. Find a game exchange or a Buybacks and get them from there.

I don't know exactly what the console is anymore but I'd say $250 gets you that, an extra controller and the steering wheel deals.

Ours came with Wii Sports and the 1st run games are $40-$50.

I would say Rock Band.

Both are going to run you close to $200 for the whole instrument set.

Quite honestly, I don't think it's worth the investment right now with your kids being so young. My 11-year-old niece can barely get through a song on Easy. You're better off going with stuff like Carnival Games and Wii Sports. You can get those Backyard Sports games with the cartoon superstars for Nick. I think he'd eat that shit up.

I have a Wii and a 7 yr old. I would suggest a lot of the same that's already been said. Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Zelda, and The 2 Wii Sports games are all a blast. Once your Wii is up you can also download all the classics from Nintendo's past which is cool too. They have a game for pretty much every kids show out there so even if it's terrible, if it's your kids favorite show they'll love it lol. Oh, and I would suggest Rock Band 2.

We got it for our teenage kids. We love all the sports games. Bowling is a blast. Ping pong and tennis are fun. Its hilarious how when you start getting better, more fans show up. Isn't there a race game where you are jumping over cows and stuff?? That's a blast for the young ones. At our house, our Miis that we created are all pretty dead on.

A neat thing that happened is that my mother (in her late 70s) started playing with my kids and she is really hooked. She loves it. We just got her one of her own for her birthday!! She'll have fun and it will get her up and moving around.

Wii sports is good. Wii carnival is nice. Littlest pet shop is cute.Game cube games will play on it too. Perfect kids console.

Blah,blah,blah. Big thing is Madden sucks holy balls on Wii. It totally sucks! Have to flap your wings like DA and you still throw to the triple covered guy instead of wide open Brian Robiskie in the endzone. Not to mention I punched a hole in the wall because I was sitting too close it and tried to pass under a full blitz.

Gotta get a PS3 for myself.

Have both an XBox 360 and a Wii.

Now, for me personally I haven't picked up the Nintendo Wii in six months. But my 9 year old stepdaughter plays it all the time and her little friends play the tar out of it.

I suggest Mario Kart and Lego Star Wars for the kids since both of those games are fun to play with the kids.

I will disagree on the kids being too young for Rock Band though (and get Rock Band not Guitar Hero). The kids in the neighborhood have a band on the game and the oldest one is 11 years old (They are 6, 8, 9 and 11) and they all play on hard difficulties. Also Rock Band has the Spongebob songs and other Nickelodeon songs that they would play over and over again.

You can also pick up the Rock Band 2 bundle for the Wii for 129 bucks at Gamestop. Then buy the Rock Band 1 game and port the games over for around an extra 20 bucks or so and you'll be sitting at around 130 songs. Very good value.

I also agree with the posters above to get a second controller, nunchuck and a battery charger station.

Don't they have a Lego Rock Band coming out? I think that's more geared to a younger audience as well. Not sure if it will be on the Wii, but that might be worth checking out if you want to jump into the music genre.

Flashing the 360 is moding the Firmware to recognize and play burnt discs. You can download the games from most torrent sites. You'll need Dual Layer DVDRs. The Fujifilm ones are supposed to be the best. You must also have a SATA card in your PC. If not the SATA PCI cards are only like $20 You must open your 360 and find out what kind of drive you have. Depending on when you bought your 360 it will either be the Samsung, Hitachi, BenQ (the easiest to flash) or the Lite On (there are two versions of the Lite On one is easy like the BenQ, the other requires a probe and connectivity kit which you can order from the net for about $60).

There are tons tutorials on YouTube for every step of the process (Like how to take the 360 apart witout voiding the warranty and where to get the needed software). Just search "Flashing Xbox 360". I'm sure the tutorials are also on websites too, you can probably Google it if you don't want to weed through the YouTube videos.

Just keep in mind, IF Microsoft finds out you modded the 360 they will ban your Xbox Live account and the Xbox it's being played on (you can still play burnt games, just not online). I have friends you have been playing modded 360's for well over a year and are still online with Microsoft being non the wiser. The people who get caught are the people who download games and play them before they come out, like right now you can download CoD Modern Warfare 2, but if you play it Micorsoft will know, the Achievements are dated and they can check for that very easily.

That's pretty much all I know, i've never Flashed a 360 but I have had friends do it ( and i'll probably have them flash my 360 for me when I get back from the goddamn repair center).

YouTube is pretty helpfull.

Hard to tell.

My son tells me GH is more challenging and the instruments are better, but RB has this no fail mode that let's you keep plying for fun even if you blow. GH shuts you down when you miss notes. If you have young one, go no fail.

the rest is opinions on what bands you like better. annoying there is no Wei compatibility.

Swerb, this is a great deal. You'll get all the instruments you need and then you can just pick up a copy of RB2 used at Gamestop and you are set.

Also, the hatred that I have for the way Guitar Hero does the way they do things is equal to my hatred of all things Pittspuke.

Sorry JB, GH is considered harder because the songs are charted wrong and they make it that way just so they can advertise that it's harder. The notes don't make sense half the time.

Ended up getting my kid Lego Star Wars, Mario Kart, the Sponge Bob game. I asked for Sports Resort, Tiger Woods '10, and Punch Out as gifts for me. Got my wife Wii Fit.

Seems like a good base of games from the reccomendations on here and the other people I talked to.

Between the console, the extra crap you need, the games ... god damn. Quite an investment. Think I'm more excited than my kid though.

Having a blast with the Wii. Tiger Woods '10 is excellent. Sports Resort is a great game as well. Playing Punchout again is a serious blast from the past. And playing Lego Star Wars and Mario Kart with the kid has been fun.

Other family also got him (me) the latest SpongeBob game, Lego Batman, Sonic the Hedgehog, A Boy & His Blob and a couple other of the crappy cheaper games targeted towards younger kids.

Thank you all for the good advice and suggestions. They've all been dead on. Got the extra controller, nunchuck, and remote chargers (which are sweet). Going to get one more wheel, one more Wii motion plus thingie.

Based on what I've been reading ... the games most appealing to me we didn't get are Carnival Games, the two new Mario games, either Rock Band 2 or Beatles: Rock Band, and the latest Zelda game.

Picked up the Wii Fit Plus the other day. Rich, have you tried the Driving Range thing on the Wii Fit plus? It has a swing analysis with it. I knew my swing was terrible, but it's so far off-balance, things I never would have noticed.

It's a bitch to hold down the A button while swinging, but, once I get the hang of it, it may actually improve my golf game.

BTW Rich just a quick tip. No need to get all into swinging the joystick for most of the games in the sports packages like baseball & golf. Just a quick flick of the wrist and you're good to go.
