Favorite Ice Cream or Ice Cream parlor

Unread postby OldDawg » Mon Oct 12, 2009 8:26 pm

I'm a huge OSU fan. Football. Basketball. And now my daughter is a frosh there...

Anyways, for OSU games and events (including sending my daughter off), we go to our local Handel's and get a couple of quarts of hand-packed Buckeye Ice Cream.

Its a very creamy vanilla ice cream. Swirl in a little chocolate sauce and peanut butter sauce. And I'm telling ya, there is a Buckeye in every bite!! I don't believe they are the full size Buckeye candies. But there is a Buckeye in every bite.

I am not sure it is the BEST ice cream. But it is outstanding. And its a sentimental favorite as well.

The best ice cream parlor: Coldstone Creamery. Very pricey, but outstanding.

Amen brother. French Vanilla is my preference but regular old vanilla is good enough. My kids eat crap like mint chocolate chip cookie dough. I say, "That's the run and shoot of ice creams you little witches."

They just look at me funny and walk away.

Yes, it is all made on campus. I knew people who worked there.

I believe most of the milk comes from University owned cows as well.

Dairy Queen is still good IMO.

Euclid Race.

How the hell did that place slip my mind for so long?

The orange drink, the ice cream....

Thought the greatest place in the world when I was growing up was Cooper's Twist & Shake on Lakeshore by Bruce Yee Park. Going to watch my dad play ball and stopping by that joint on the way home for a chocolate shake or malt was the definition of a great summer night when I was ten.

And the Race old school ice cream sodas are that which I never expect to taste again. I have a milk crate from Race. Might have been one of the 3 or 4 material things I inisisted upon during my seperation / divorce.

How bout that place in Uncle Bills parking lot across from Euclid Beach that was make your own soft serve sundaes before that was big at buffets? Looked like a UFO .

Our TV at BGSU sat on a 'table' of Euclid Race milk crates. Uncle Bill's, Red Barns, Woolworth's (loved the vile lunch counter food too).

There used to be a department store right by the Lake and the Shore theaters too. Couple levels, can't remember the name.

Yep, we'd rike our bikes from 260th all the way over to Euclid Race in the summer for a malt or a float. Good stuff.

Man, I wasnt a huge fan of Oberweis, I went there a few times and only thought it was ok.

My favorite store brand is Blue Bunny, any kind. It is made in Iowa so I am not sure if they have it in Cleveland.

My favorite stand alone store is Brusters in Pittsburgh (yeah I know sorry). Chocolate Oreo ice cream, the most under used flavor.

Close second is a place called Glaciers out here in Boulder/Denver. They have one that is Peanutbutter ice cream, fudge and oreos. Its awesome.
In the end, we're all "only for a limited time," you guys.

Honey Hut's solid. Love the Peanut Butter sundae. Their prices are a little high for my liking, though. $5.50 for a medium sundae is pretty ridiculous.

My daughter and her fiancee moved to Strongville.......

There is a place called the "Honey Hut" (?) on Pearl between Drake and Lunn. All homemade and their Honey Butter Pecan is absolutely the best I have ever had.....

....and there is probably enough butter fat in it to vapor lock a rhino.

Sorry O: didn't notice your previous post.........

Does it melt quickly when it's placed in a big bowl??

In all seriousness, my wife's favorite flavor is Peachy Paterno.
Melts in a big bowl. I have to tell ya, I think that is hilarious.

I thought the favorite flavor was Paterno Prune.

And does anyone really know who is making the ice cream anymore??

I know I made a pitch for Buckeye Candy Ice Cream from Handels. To me that is partly about its flavor, and partly about my fondness of OSU.

I think if I had to pick a couple of favorite flavors:
Strawberry Cheesecake.
Pralines and Cream
A flavor I had years ago called Quarterback crunch. Kind of a mix of Pralines and Cream with chocolate crunch.

My wife's favorite sundae: DQ's Peanut Buster Parfait.
My favorite sundae: Friendly's Reese's Pieces Sundae.

Back in the day growing up Zero Zest on State Rd in Parma was the place. Nothing like saving up your change on a summer day and riding your bikes up there to get a cone or a Screwball.

East Coast Custard was another place to go once you got your license.

Thank God for my fathers infidelity. If not for the divorce and his moving out to Euclid, I'd never would've experienced Euclid Race. The only thing that could have been better would be if Stevenson's served ice cream.

Galley Boys are slop on top of a so-so burger and a bun you coulde get from a Covneninet food mart generic pack. They the Antoine Joubert of burgers; soft, sloppy, oozing grease and cheap sauce and extremely overrated by a biased fan base. Proof that if you throw enough cheap sauce shit on a burger you still can't overcome the lame burger. -JB

Sounds like a brothel. As you are a former officer of the peace, I am going to suggest you not go there. You have a reputation to uphold.

First house I bought was a bungalow on 238th. Back yard was St Robert's and Stevenson's was within a stone's throw (4 throws for Johnny Damon) from the house. Burgers were once amongst the best in the business. If you could get past the fact that they also sold live nightcrawlers out of the same walk in fridge that they kept the meat in you were good to go. ;-) ;)

Spent many a Saturday afternoon at Stevensons w/ the old man. He'd get his fill of Black Label and me and my sister would get a burger and endless quarters to play the submarine video game. Then it was off to get changed and hang out at The Village Bar for the night. At least me and the other kids "hanging out" could go over to UDF.

Place has been around for a LONG time. I grew up on that frozen custard stand. After most baseball games that was the place we hit. On a rare day, would splurge for a dip cone.

In the winter, we used to get our Christmas tree off their lot. Lots of memories.

Say what you will about Joe's age or the recent state of the program, but that is ridiculous.

Relax. It was a joke meant to get you riled up. Guess it worked.
