Signature size

Can we set a limit on how large a signature can be? It's on every one of a poster's posts. One line of text, three thousand lines of signature. Scroll through a point, see a ginormic picture. I'm not asking for a draconian one-line limit, but something is desirable.

It makes it hard to keep your place in a multi-reply thread.

Is there a way for me to completely turn off everyone's signatures for my viewing??? I think they are the most annoying thing ever created and would love to not have to look at them. I know other message boards have the option to turn them off, but couldn't find that option here. Thanks in advance.

I think we should just eliminate big pictures from signatures. Those are what get to be a real pain.

Any update on putting a size limit in. Beyond the standard sucky big pictures now people like Greatgoo are rolling with GIFs that are causing plenty of thread loading issues.

Hell GIF sigs could single handily explode someone's cell.

You see, there are some people here who believe they rule the forum. You can't say anything bad about the Browns without getting a lecture. You're not allowed to say anything positive about Wedge. Or Shapiro (if you could think of anything positive about Shap). LeBron is a tool if he wears a Yankers hat, and you can't defend him. He's also a hero when the team wins, you can't point out anything wrong.

You're not allowed to say anything about that school 150 miles away, or watch any other school even if you attend there. You have to be a honk. You can't talk about the MAC without some honks coming in and arguing and insulting anybody who thinks theiy're honks.

Just a couple examples of the closed minded people being intolerant of opinion that doesn't match theirs.

Second paragraph. A forum is about expression, a place to express your opinions. Not be yes men to some guy we don't know.

Third paragraph. Having a unique avatar helps you revisit a thread. You can write a reply, come back tomorrow, and scroll down and find your post easily. So you can follow the thread from there.

In your Control Panel-Board Preferences-Display Options (I think I remembered that correctly) there is a Yes-No option to display sigs.

Yes is the default setting.

Before it gets to the clubbin stage, let me know. I've stated many times I'll see what I can do to help....

Many of us cell browse and peeps running with huge sigs has cut down a ton, but gifs are terrible.

Even my comp is currently chocking on greatgoos.

And if I need to block em I will.

What I can tell you is I am constantly on the look out for a cell browser modification to the boards software to make it more compatible for the cells, etc.....

I promise when there's a 'stable' version of one, we'll have it!

I have offered the specific example of the kb heavy gif and offered the kb limit idea to you because I know you know what "I mean" and I know that Rich wants this place to run as smooth as possible.

I am not asking you to make a decision, but, while we wait for mobile working boards and while we all do not want our browsers to gag on threads, I am essentially asking you to look into the kb eaten on this clunky board software (not an insult, all board sf is) by things like gif sigs and if setting a kb limit would help running it by Rich.

Not your boards, I get it, but you are here for a reason, eh?

Tell you what I'll do.......I'll investigate it for you, check the settings, and see what I can do....Most are defaulted for optimal and favorable results....




I can do alot, but not everything..... I don't have cpanel access. Thats where all the goodies be, including things like bandwith usage....

And for what it's worth, I wish I was here before this upgrade.....I would have HIGHLY suggested another software....(the one I use ) The trouble is, you get so used to one, you hate to change. Some are just damn tough to learn.

Anyhow, I checked for a mod for cell usage here, none yet.....which doesn't surprise me, because PHPBB didn't even include an RSS script for the forums, I found and added that.

And I'll see if there's a better medium with the gifs....

If you changed to that size it needs to be waaaaaay smaller. That picture of the fat blob steeler chick is as big as a 5 X 7! (user = RIBrownsfan I think). lately things seem to be getting ridiculous and I agree with all the various reasons listed already. I just found the foe button to use as the ignore feature. I hope that will help my sanity. Thanks.

Also rechecked the settings, which are right. 240 x 360 is not a big pic. He must have had his in before I changed the settings? Haven't seen any new ones bigger than that.

push-pull, on-off, right-left, front-back, in-out, black-white, stop-go, twist-turn, etc, etc, etc. wasn't a similar topic brought up already in another post just recently about different people's opinions in which they refered to them as being "switches"???

no matter how much you try, you are never going to be able to please everybody, so why do we even bother??? everyone has their own opinions and no matter what you say, if you're opinions are different from theirs, you are always wrong, wrong, wrong.

then, if you try to point out the errors in their thinking, all of a sudden you get attacked and ridiculed and your name drug through the mud, despite the fact that you have a valid point that is almost always lost in all of the resultant name-calling, brow-beating and trash-talking.

that is why i have never bothered to use an avatar and kept my signature to just the bare minimum of my name and the staggered ellipses . . . as in "to be continued". i prefer to just express myself in my posts and so i don't use avatars or signatures, but i get a kick out of others who do, especially the more creative ones.

speaking of which, i think british pharaoh has some of the most creative avatars on here.

anyway, whatever swerb ultimately decides to do with it, it's his site and he can do whatever he damn well pleases and there's nothing the rest of you can do about it. oh, i guess you can always bitch, bitch, bitch about it til your blue in the face (gee, would that make you a smurf then???), but the fact remains, it's his site and like his signature once said - "if you don't like it, go make your own".

i just saw this and implemented it. eliminates all the excess clutter in the signature line. some other board members may want to use this. Thanks Tribe Zone for the info.

If you have to have a pic in your sig, optimize it. Everyone, including yourself, will benefit with faster page loads...

The Lebron pic I did is such a small file size, it will fly.

I use this online service to resize and optimize, but there are more.

200 high 300 wide are good sig sizes.....small file size is a good setting also.

Lately sig pics are getting more creative and then i remembered i was having this problem a while back. I checked my display options and it is checked as "no" but i still see the sig line and the pictures. Is this a problem with the new software?? I am going to click yes and log out and then click no and log out and then sign in again and see if the signature is no longer displayed and will let everyone know the result.

OK, it worked. If any one wants to get rid of all the videos and long sig lines all they have to do is go through the process and they will go away.
