Sonic, who's in line?

Unread postby Larvell Blanks » Fri Aug 28, 2009 11:45 am

The first Sonic in Cuyahoga County opens tomorrow. Who's in line to get free combo's for a year?

http://blog.cleveland.com/parmasunpost/2009/08/first_sonic_restaurant_in_cuya.html

To promote Sonic's Aug. 29 opening, the first 100 customers that morning will receive free combo meals for one year.

Darchuk said she's not worried that the restaurant might be overrun with customers seeking a year's worth of free meals.

"That's our goal, but we have a traffic plan, so we should be all right," Darchuk said

I'm sure the McD's, BK, Wendy's, and T. Bell in that area are excited about this opening.

That area has Burger King, Wendy's, McD, Arby's, Taco Bell/Long John Silver's, Quizno's, Eat N Park, Pizza Hut, Hong Kong Buffet, Hometown Buffet, Mr. Chicken, Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins, and then a couple bars and two finer restaurants (Dmitri's and Corleone's).

Hello oversaturation.

Don't forget Antonio's to-go

Good thing Denny's got out when they did.

What's going to happen to all the people parking for the Home Town Buffet now that Sonic and DD/BR take up that whole parking area?

It's going to be a traffic nightmare around that area until the Sonic novelty wears off.

I'm excited...I'd love to be in line, but there's already people camping out. I drive past there just about everyday to get to my job in Independence (I go that way if I want to get some coffee at Dunkin Donuts...it's crack, by the way, but that's another discussion). It was raining pretty good at 7:45 this morning, and there were people there, waiting.

I'm half tempted...probably gonna play some cards tonight just between there and Brookpark Rd, so if I'm out late enough, I'll grab a DD coffee next door and sit in line. But, let's be honest...I don't know if a year of free fast food is something that is a good idea. It sounds great in concept, but I'm already a big guy...I don't know if I need the draw of free fast food for a year.

That being said, if I'm awake at 3-4 AM, I might ride up there. If it's slow, I'll post it here for all my Parmans (I don't know what people of Parma call themselves). Hell, if I get, it's probably going on Craigslist.

I actually used to be quite excited whenever I found a Sonic, but now that I have one with in walking distance, I never go. The novelty wears off quickly and after you realize it isnt much different than Wendy's or McD's, you will just look at it the like the others. Sonic has 2 great things goign for it. Tater tots and Cherry Limeades.

Never ate at Sonic.

Never ate at Five Guys either. Putting one right by my office in Lakewood. Heard good things about Five Guys.

They show their commercials all the time down here, but the only one around is in Grove City.

Same with Jack In The Box. Is there even a JitB in Ohio? You shouldn't be allowed to pimp your product in an area in which you don't have a location.

A Five Guys just opened about ten miles away from my house. Went there a few weeks ago, it was good.

I eat Sonic all the time now in Texas & Oklahoma when I travel. AFAIC it's just awe-ite. Good and all but not cult good.

5 guys tastes exactly like a home made burger you can just make at home. So why not just make it at home? Like it don't love it.

Neither is as good as just hitting up BWs or Ruby Tuesday IMO, let alone Ray's Place.

Are we really talking about Sonic?

Sheesh.

Rich get your butt off the couch right now and go to Five Guys (one at Westgate is closest for now I think for you at work).

I'm down with that. It's good, the drinks and ice cream are both great, the food is good but nothing special. I don't hit it up nearly as much as I would Popeyes, Taco Bell or Canes.

I also think Jack in the Box is better than Sonic. They've got some pretty good menu items there that are more unique to burger joints -- monster tacos, egg rolls, etc.

Our subdivision (is that still a word in this millennium?) is surrounded by the place - 3 ways out and you pass a Sonic 66% of the time.

Best bet - the drinks and ice cream, as mentioned above. My fav - Rt 44 size diet limeade. Especially during "happy hour" - usually during the afternoons when all drinks are 1/2 price. Food is very feh. Drinks rock.

P.S. Rt. 44 diet limeade or diet cherry limeade mixed with some Myers or Sailor Jerry's makes a nice roadie. I mean allegedly, so I've told. No sir, no direct experience. Just rumor and innuendo.

Love the diet cherry limeade, I am going to have to put some booze in it to increase my love.

That's the ticket! If it's good, booze only enhances it's goodness. Screw the diet though.

Down here it's hysterical. You'll see parents show up to their kids Little League games with lawn chairs and huge drink cups from Sonic. Most of them are spiked.

I must have missed some memo somewhere. Since when was Sonic this mythical fast food joint?

Only mythical fast food out there is In & Out Burger.

The rest is what it is and very regionally biased.

I just threw it up here because it's ridiculous to believe that people have been camped out for DAYS to get 52 free meals. Everyone I know who has eaten at Sonic raves about the drinks and feels the food is...meh.

They must've been sucked in by those witty commercials.

I'd wait overnight for the free Chick-Fil-A for a year.

Made it there Saturday morning because I was in the area. Busy, but not insane...no wait at about 10:30 AM. I'll recommend what I had, the SuperSonic (IIRC) breakfast burrito with tots and a cherry limeade. I think the burrito/tots are/were better than any local breakfast option...it was pretty good.

May take the trek for lunch today. Grabbing my dad for a quick 9 holes on our days off and he's within 5 minutes from there, so I'm thinking I'll grab lunch.

And yes, it's just a myth. The food's good, but I've never been so wowed in the few times I've tried it (here, Myrtle Beach, and Columbus) that it's worth really going out of the way for. Those damn commercials are so catchy though. Coincidentally, I don't think I've seen a Sonic commercial since the new place in Parma has been up and running.

Zactly. On every corner for most of us, so it's belly-fill...but the cat who lives 30 miles from the closest McD's is a straight-up fiend for Big Macs and such..
