Robert Rodriguez has reportedly assembled an all-star cast for his new Grindhouse spin-off, including Robert De Niro, Jonah Hill, and Michelle Rodriguez.

The movie is based on a fake trailer that appeared before Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's 2007 Grindhouse double-bill.

Two years on, the filmmaker has decided to turn it into a full-length film.

Danny Trejo will reprise his role as Machete, a madman hellbent on revenge, and De Niro will play a senator who double-crosses him, a tipster tells movie website Bloody-Disgusting.com.

Shooting on the spin-off is scheduled to begin on 29 July.

I like the energy Robert Rodriguez brings, but I thought Planet Terror was the weaker half of Grindhouse. I mean, it's tough to make a zombie-movie parody, those movies are almost parodies to begin with. At least Dawn of the Dead was, and that's the best zombie movie I've ever seen.

As a youth, he roamed the streets around his home area, committing various crimes with his uncle and became addicted to drugs. He was in and out of jail many times as a teenager.

While on the streets, Trejo developed talent as a boxer and considered taking up boxing as a profession. That ambition was dashed by a lengthy prison sentence. While serving time in San Quentin State Prison, he became the California state prison champion in both the lightweight and welterweight divisions. During this time, Trejo became a member of a twelve-step program, which he credits with his success in overcoming drug addiction.

Robert Rodriguez is ok. Only movies of his I really liked were Desperado, Sin City (his best by far), and From Dusk Till Dawn was ok.

Planet Terror was god awful, Death Proof mildly better, but still bad. Once Apon A Time In Mexico sucked like a nympho on X.

The best part of Grindhouse was the trailers. Machete, Werewolf Women Of The SS, Thanksgiving, and Don't.

I'll go see it since I like Danny Trejo.

At least Dawn of the Dead was, and that's the best zombie movie I've ever seen.

Excellent. The remake wasn't bad IMO, they didn't step on Romero's toes. They just took the premise of being stuck in a mall during the zombie apocalypse and built a new story around it. Never been a fan of fast zombies though.

Cerebral, you seen to not get into much of the salute to past generations at all, hating all of the Grindhouse stuff and your taking Jennifer's Body's trailer seriously.

That said, Dawn of the Dead remake was not bad, but the best new zombie movie (even though they were not technically zombies) was 28 Days Later.

Grindhouse was awful, it has nothing to do with past generations, 4 hours to see some badass trailers that will never be made (other than Machete). Planet Terror was dumb, I got it's point, no plot gore everywhere. Death Proof was not terrible. I didn't like Kill Bill either.

Jennifer's Body might be great, the trailer sucked. I get it. Teenage hormone satire. I'm looking forward to Zombieland.

Loved 28 Days Later, Danny Boyle did a great job with it. The way it was shot was epic. The scene with him in the church was sick.
