Unreal.

His fights with Mickey Ward were damn near the best I have ever seen.

Jesus.

By foul play.

Agreed on the Ward fights. One of the best trilogies of fights I've ever seen.

Damn shame. One of my all-time favorites to watch, and I was happy he retired with his health more-or-less intact. Now this...

I'm listening to Thunderstruck right now and about to do a shot.
One of the most entertaining fighters I ever saw.
Him coming out in AC was electric.
Shitty day for fight fans everywhere.

One of three great trilogies from my lifetime, his battles with Micky Ward. Unlike Vasquez/Marquez and Barrera/Morales, neither Ward or Gatti were either ever close to being top ten lb of lb guys ... which lets you know how great those three fights were.

Always loved Gatti. Dude just packed Atlantic City casinos everytime he fought. Always an entertaining fight. Remember when he fought Mayweather .. wanted Gatti to win that fight as much as I can ever remember pulling for a guy in a non-Pavlik fight. The loss to Delahoya, the losses to Ivan Robinson. The win over Leija. I remember em all. Every fight post Ward was on HBO.

A ballsy entertaining warrior. As a huge boxing fan, I will be talking about the Gatti/Ward trilogy the rest of my life.

Just blown away. I distinctly remember flipping channels one night and stumbled upon one of his legendary fights with Mickey Ward. Most entertaining fight I ever saw and he instantly became my favorite fighter.
Fuck the Browns...

I loved Gatti. He put everything he had in to every fight, right to the end. Obviously, the Ward fights were classic, but the one fight I remember most was the De La Hoya fight and how he was just getting pulverized and kept coming back for more. It reminded me of a Rocky fight without the made for Hollywood ending.

As exciting as he was, it was a relief when he hung it up...and now this.

He has a one year son...

May the Lord have mercy.

I see his wife has been taken into custody, and apparently the cause of death was strangulation with a purse strap. Apparently he was stone-cold drunk and the wife done him in.

Those with DVRs would do well to preserve this.

My god, if you are home, have HBO, and do not have the Gatti/Ward trilogy on ... please, do yourself a favor and turn it on. In rd 6 of fight I. Showing all 3 back to back.

You forget how good these fights were. Just amazing. Doesn't get any better.

Ridiculously entertaining.

9th round of fight I, first round of that insane Hagler/Hearns fight ... the two greatest rounds in boxing history IMO.

Just does not get any better than that 9th rd.

Gatti looks just stunned after pummeling Ward in the early part of fight II round 3 that Ward doesn't go down and out and still comes back to bang some more.

Yeah, round three of fight II is a classic as well.

Ward was done. Barely able to stand. Lowers his gloves, taps his own chest, opens himself up, and calls for more punishment. Then catches a right hook to the face that almost puts him down. And somehow comes back to turn the tide in that round. Gatti looks like he saw God when Ward came back from that beating.

Ya gotta love McGirk imploring Gatti not to make the 10th a brawl, Gatti saying "Yes sir" and then going out and seeing them throw bombs at each other for three minutes.

No neutral, no reverse. Those two had only 4th gear. Gatti won that fight in round 3 as Ward was never sharp afterward.

Riveting shit, that trilogy.

Foreman summed it up best in the 2nd fight when he said it wasn't about the money. It was about fighting for your family, fighting for where you were from and it was about who you are.
