wanna try it, like the rock band thing in the music forum?

Draft 5 (maybe 6 guys) from the complete NBA history, must fill roster by position etc.

OK time permitting I'll try to get this all set up, a suggestion is needed though, how many teams should we have?

We can get real down and dirty and have as many as there are in the NBA now, what 30?

Or we can limit it to say 16ish to keep the teams from being diluted and to keep our research a bit less time consuming.

I vote for 16 teams, both for personal reason and for reason mentioned above.

I am sure with all this excitement about hoops in CTown right now we can get 32 easy, so maybe two 16 team leagues. Each league drafting from it's own separate pool of players? Repeat players drafted but 1 in a million odds of any identical repeat teams between the 2 leagues I would think. Thoughts.

Rich or any mods maybe pin this for a while?

Pinned. One thing we will have to clarify is if you have to draft a PG and a SG, or just two guards. Maybe even come up with a position list, so we have clarity on what positions swingmen would be drafted at.

Also, I like the idea of drafting a coach as well.

For the sake of any disputes about position maybe we can go by an official site's listing in their stat page for the player, or just a board consensus about the position said player played longest or the most?

As for positions, should we not just let the person drafting use their discretion? If they want to draft and start 5 post guys, than they run the risk of it coming back to bite them in the voting. I'm good either way, this is going to be fun.

I am not opposed Bayou, but here is my thinking on why maybe we shouldn't, to keep it a bit more realistic and avoid popularity contest stuff in regards to the players. Let's face it few of us saw Wilt or Russell play, we know they were great, but we might as a demographic be more inclined to vote for the team with the Jordans and the Kobe's only b/c we are more familiar with them.

Either way I am up to what the group wants.

I see where you're coming from, I guess it could go either way.

Another thing we could do for kicks is to run the matchups on whatifsports.com to see there simulated scores and box scores. We'd still vote to determine the winner, but it would be interesting to see how they simulate it and how players would matchup and perform. Not sure how much you can do on that site for free, but I'll look into it. Just another dimension to add to the discussion when we match these teams up.

I'd love to have a paragraph throw down about how The Diesel (my C) would slaughter David Robinson (opponent) and Gary Payton would be too much for Fat Lever to handle...

My suggestion is starting right now, and give it a day or two and see how we are going. If it starts to drag way too much then maybe try to force feed it a little.

Pick a guy and provide a link (basketball ref.com etc...) verifying the player and position, sound good?

rebel's up, no harm in rebel picking without everybody being aware at this point, right?

As a help for this maybe if people know they will be unavailable for long stretches of the day they can let us know ahead of time if possible.

For instance I will not have access to a PC between 4:30am & 4:00pm on Wednesday.
