Try and keep all comments in this thread so everything is centralized.

ramllov's post from another thread ...

I thought I would check in.

I hope to get a few picks in, prior to 2:30 to 5:00 pm.

My girls have Brownies, (girl scouts), acting and swimming this afternoon.

I will try to get back between 3:30 to 3:45 to check if I need to make a pick.

The name change is soccer dad today.

I will end the day with homework, baths, washing their hair and preparing dinner. The afternoon and early evening are pretty busy on a Wednesday, thank goodness it is only one day out of the week for heavy traffic.

I'm looking to move one or more of my exquisite power hitters for a middle infielder or two. Send trade offers to Max's Juice Weasels.

Rickie Weeks do anything for you? Note that I thought so highly of him that I kept him over Ensberg.

There's no accounting for taste, Rich!

Weeks may do quite nicely. See anything on my roster that interests you? Or perhaps a pick or two?

Weeks + ______ for Carl Crawford

OUCH.

Any discussion involving Crawford will have to include D. Wright. I couldn't like the guy any more if I'd given birth to him myself.

I would feel a lot better about a Sizemore for Weeks trade.

Understandable Max. I've had him in my main keeper league for four years now. Your man love is noted, and understood.

I would do Weeks for Sizemore straight up. I couldn't add much, if anything to the pot.

Pick Thursday

Your pick is on Thursday.

It is the fifth pick of the day. Walk it up from 4- 5, so probably 8 - 9.

It is on the thread.

We have all picks scheduled for three weeks.

I saw that pick!

Unread postby ramllov » Wed Mar 22, 2006 2:18 pm

I saw that pick and went WOW!

As I continued to do my homework, I wondered if I should have kept this guy.

He has a high upside, but I just could not keep him.

It was nice to see a pitcher go.

I only have to wait one pick.

Two guys I wanted have been picked. I have two guys left. I hope I get my first choice of the two.

I will be gone at 2:30, an make brief appearances at 3:45 and 5:00. It does not appear to be a problem with the progress of todays draft.

It just might be the first day.

If Scott Rolen is not one of the top 119 fantasy players, I've got bigger problems (and so does he).

Bruce, mine are fine.

I think that for some reason, when some people register, it auto defaults the time zone to "GMT" instead of "GMT-5".

You can adjust it in your personal settings.

I just checked, the default for the board is indeed GMT - 5

Oasis I think drafting Howard this high was a bit of a stretch but I needed a little pop, after starting Sean Casey parts of the last two years. Ichiro was there and looked awfully tempting though.

Actually, I was also seriously considering making Howard my #1 pick if he was available...although even if he hadn't been taken, I probably still would've picked Ichiro, as taking Howard would've made it difficult to use the DH slot for flexibility. (As I already have Pujols locked in at first.)

If you need power numbers, I doubt that Howard is going to be a reach, especially in the "ninth" round. He's going to be a masher for a while.

Now, taking him over Ichiro...well that remains to be seen.

I still can't believe Damon fell that far.

I have a list from Brandon, who is about 5 picks away. Im gonna forward it to Crowley and Ram.

Hopefully when I get back on line theres a couple blown panic picks I can make fun of.

Lackey was a stud last year, right after I lifted him off of the waiver wire.

Those K numbers are going to stay the same, but I fear that the Angels offense might be a bit more hard pressed to score some runs.

Still can't believe they didn't deal for Manny. A 3-4 of Manny/Vlad would be even more dangerous that Manny/Ortiz.

I really thought I had a chance at Rolen. Damn that Gooz!

And just outta curiousity, who let Kazmir go, and in favor of who?

My decision was between Kazmir, Damon, and Guardado. Guardado and Damon went with the next two picks.

What's the rule of thumb you're going to use for waiting on a team to make a pick? In Brandon's case it was about 2.5 hours - same for Verba?

Yes, thats what I was thinking 2.5 hours. For rounds 1-5.

90 minutes for rounds 6-10. 60 minutes for the final 5 rounds.

I have mixed feelings on wait time and Goozer might be about right.

I can see where a guy sees he is 12 picks away and thinks "I'll check back in 3 hours". Then we have the situation where those of us geeks sitting in front of a PC make our picks rapid fire, and the whole chain speeds up.

I know that given that I have two LL games to coach Thurs. and Fri. and Saturday, so I might be in the same boat. Hopefully all you single guys will have too much to do Friday night to stay on here much past 4-5 EST.

Yes Rich I like that idea. Shrinking the times for the latter rounds is probably the best way to go, because you don't want the draft to drag on at the end. At the same time, having more time up front breaks everyone in slowly.

Yeah, I am going to be in and out from about 7-10 Eastern time because I am the announcer for the boys' volleyball team here. I know that most people are getting home on the East Coast, so I might be a little late if we get all the way up to me tonight.

Being at school, I don't have the time to prep a list of guys, but I am sure I can fire them off to someone a little later just in case.

DMiles - Good Point.

I guess what I'm looking for is a rule of thumb so that everyone knows what the requirements are. If its 2.5/1.5 hours great - just want to make sure we're all on the same page. Since this is a pay for play league, it's obviously in the best interest to all for each team to make their own picks and not be forced into a player. Unfortunately though, with 14 different peeps with 14 different lives, who likely live in 4 different time zones, this thing will hit bumps in the road.

Personally, I don't like to send people a list especially if I'm 10 picks or so away because if a *run* happens it might make sense to change your mind, but it is what it is.

FWIW, Sunday may be difficult for me as I have my other draft that usually takes about 8 hours (not a typo) to complete.

It's by far my favorite draft of the year. Ours is a 20 team league. 10 AL only, 10 NL only. We start it at my buddys bar at 10 AM.

20 guys drinking coffee from 8-12 AM, then beer from 12-4. It gets ugly late.

Me, my friends ... we talk so much smak. We've all been buddies for 20 years, the same group. The entire 6 hours is just one personal attack and degrating insult after another. After most bids are won, it's followed by a good 60 seconds of harrassment.

I won it last year and will be in rare form.

Definitely. We should probably leave the board open all night, which may result in a couple more picks, as opposed to the current 9 until 9 rule. Also I gave Swerb a list of 10 players that I'd like, but as someone mentioned if there's a run a desired player list can radically change.

As Ram said though, we need 3 picks a day.

Picks can be made all through the night ... without a doubt. Sorry for not making that clear. The autopick clock only runs from 9-9 though.

Every year we have the same panic after the 1st day or two. Season starts in 2 weeks. We have 13 1/2 rounds left. We'll get it done. We do need to get a minimum of 2 rds done per day though.
