How do you like your hotdog?

Unread postby Ziner » Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:36 pm

So had some dogs tonight and started thinking about this. I think I am in the minority because I would prefer them boiled over throwing them on the grill. Just wondered if I am wierd or if others agree. The best dog there is at the Jake, Jumbo, Sugardale, grilled onions, and Ballpark mustard. Love that dog. Another one moving up in the my heirarchy is the Portillo's Chicago dog. Vienna dog, with steamed poppy seed bun, mustard, onions, relish, celery salt, pickle and sport peppers. Going to miss those about Chicago.

Your favorite dog?

Hebrew National, grilled, ball park mustard.

Anything else is sacrilege.

Can't stand mustard on my hotdog. I know, that puts me in the vast minority. Usually go onions and relish, or chili and cheese. No mustard, can't do it.

So to recap....

-- Never seen Star Wars
-- Don't like mustard on hotdogs

I think I'm the only one in America working with that combo right now. Kinda proud of that. :nanner:

I hate mustard, but I have seen Star Wars.

I love the Nathan's hot dogs with the cheese in the middle with ketchup.
Yummy.

Just started finding Nathan's dogs in stores down here the past couple of years, and they are very good. Haven't had the cheese dogs, but I'll check it out next time I'm at the store.

Pretzel dogs are VERY GOOD.
I once made them at home, they came out alright but not the same.

I am the BIGGEST fan of hotdogs. Here's my preference.....Regular hotdogs are to be boiled or LIGHTLY grilled. If they are grilled too long, they get rubbery, burnt, and pruney. Nathans, Ball Parks, and Hebrew National dominate the field. If you want to go the more expensive route, Id recommend buying Johnsonville Cheddar Dogs. Hands down the best thing that isnt a bratwurst. All my dogs (and Brats) are eaten on a toasted bun (on the grill) with Ketchup, Spicy Garlic Mustard, and Onions. God Bless America

Prefer them steamed over everything else...just reminds me of a true Coney Island or Municipal Stadium dog

Boiled prolly second followed by grilled...one of the few foods I don't really liked grilled...they get too crispy like a kiebasa (yuck)

Stadium mustard and chopped onions only please (or chili  )

Prefer to grill them and load up on ketchup, stadium mustard and onions. Prefer Ballpark brand hot dogs to all the others. I have a weakness though, fully loaded coney's at Skyline Chili.

When I do have dogs I usually hit up a butcher shop and get the all beef hot dogs. Simmer them in some beer for half an hour and finish them up on the grill. Lay on the stadium mustard.

Bayou, no love for the Lucky Dog? Had one last time I was in the Quarter. Maybe it tasted so good because I just walked out of the Absinthe House after 5 hours.

S-Train strong to the hole !

(I'll roll other all-beef's though, incl Nates)

But gotta be grilled and gotta be slathered in enough Bertman's Ballpark so you can not see the dog.

Gonna do that shit this weekend matter a fact.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't like the all-beef dogs.

Just gimme a standard Ball Park or Oscar Meyer, grilled, with stadium mustard and dill relish. If there's no stadium mustard to be had, then just some form of dijon is an alright substitute. Chili, cheese, and onion is good occasionally too.

That's a common tale. I've only had one Lucky Dog while sober enough to remember it, and all in all...... it's a pretty standard dog. Nothing to write home about, but good enough to get the job done after a night on the town.

Have you ever tried Bertman's Ballpark?

JB, I have never had the pleasure. I'm guessing that is the proprietary mustard of the Jake? I've heard alot of good things, I may have to see if I can order some online and give it a go sometime soon.

Bayou, try this link:

http://www.americanspice.com/catalog/se ... RCH_ENGINE

All beef dogs need to be boiled and put on grill for full effect, followed by ketchup, ballpark mustard, and relish (sweet or dill depending on the situation). If you get tired of that after Kobayashiing a bunch, go with nacho cheese and chili :thumb up: Place in Melbourne, Florida called Mustard's Last Stand has some interesting choice for dogs too like guacamole, salsa, etc...

Replace the yellow mustard with Cleveland Stadium (or Ballpark) Mustard (and kill the relish) on the above, and you have my favorite dog, Z. I <3 Portillos.

Mustard and onion. I like boiled and lightly grilled. Hate when the dogs get burnt.

I have forbidden my wife from putting ketchup on her dogs or anything else not a hamburg (like chicken) around our kids. Don't want them to grow up thinking that normal folks do things like that ;-) ;)

Looking at the link that fundamentals posted with the Bertman's bottle and label, I'm almost sure that my parents have a bottle at their house. That looks too familiar. It would make sense with all of the business he does in Cleveland that he probably picked some up or someone sent him some, etc. I may make the trek down to mom and pops' this weekend to raid the kitchen and see what transpires.

If you put ketchup on a hot dog, you'd probably be open to the idea of dousing it with thousand island dressing. The only acceptable condiments for a dog, in order from most acceptable to least, are:

Mustard
Onions
Sweet Relish
Chili
Cheddar cheese
Sauerkraut
Sweet and hot relish (I can't remember the brand name, but it's killer)

I'm pretty sure dill relish comes out of Satan's hindquarters, and ketchup... it's just wrong. In my house ketchup is for cheap cocktail sauce and occasionally for fries. I wouldn't even think of ruining a burger with ketchup.

Any type of mustard other than ballpark mustard is sacrilege.

Agreed that the only condiment on a hot dog should be mustard. Ketchup should never EVER touch a hot dog. I prefer mine to be Ball Park bun length, boiled with a steamed bun, slathered in Stadium Mustard, just like at old Municipal Stadium.

Now here is the big question: Which mustard is the preferred mustard? Bertman's Ball Park? or Stadium Mustard?

Dont likr Sugardale?

Here is the secret to orderig dogs at the Jake young man.

Only buy them from the American Grill stands. That means they are grilled and delish. Do not buy from vendors or anywhere else. They are boiled and nasty.

There it is, courtesy of Middle Aged Man.

Anyone here like the hot dogs at the concession stand at Sam's Club? :hide: And speaking of Sam's/WalMart, the Gwaltney all beef hot dogs that they carry are pretty good. :thumb up:

If your answer includes anything but stadium mustard, you should be denied access to the ball park.

In addition, buying them from the vendors/stands at the Jake is also sacriledge. If you want the real experience (and just the right amount of bacteria) you need to buy them from the homeless looking guy selling them on the street. Nothing better than a boiled dog covered in stadium mustard!

Cinci sucks for hot dogs. I got one at Paul Brown Stadium that was the most disgusting piece of white meat I've ever eaten.

i felt uncomfortable eating them. the color of the dog matched skin tone perfectly. all it needed was a head, and it probably would've counted as a gay experience. and on top of that they tasted awful, kinda like a cross between bad lunch meat turkey and the disgusting chicken(?) they served on mondays at SHS
