MGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for "The Three Stooges."
Studio has set Sean Penn to play Larry, and negotiations are underway with Jim Carrey to play Curly, with the actor already making plans to gain 40 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome "Curly" Howard.

The studio is zeroing in on Benicio Del Toro to play Moe.

The film is not a biopic, but rather a comedy built around the antics of the three characters that Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Howard played in the Columbia Pictures shorts.

Oh, God NO.

:hide:

Jeff Spiculi is a stooge, but that moreso has to with his politics.

And Jim Carrey is hilliarious, but I don't think he could fit those shoes.

I also thought this movie was already underway and auctually being filmed here in Cleveland with Kokinis, Mangini and Lerner.

I'm a young'n but I do know who the Three Stooges are. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with them, but when I did see them on TV, I didn't think they were that funny. However, that's not to say I disrespect them and their slapstick style. They were pioneers, of course.

Dawg, I don;'t think there's been a new Stooges episode since there' s been a new Little Rascals episode.

So I don't even think Mitch grew up with them....

Those actors sound awful in those roles. No reason to remake the stooges...

Man, that's spot on...... :thumb up:

The Stooges , for the young-uns, you just gotta watch them all to appreciate.

Curly or Shemp, I can never decide which of the two I liked best....

Larry, laughing at Mo, and then getting the shit slapped out of him..... :lmfao:

And Mo....with all of his managerial skills, is where our current day leaders, bosses, and people in charge of things, learned theirs...

+1 for the Lead Man! Just another reason for me to want to smack Jim Carrey! The guy is so overated, he hasn't been funny since Firemarshall Bill!

Then you missed out on the best Saturday's at noon time with Superhost and the Stooges back when we only had 5 TV channels to choose from in the 70's.

Definitely a BAD idea...especially with that announced cast.

Carrey hasn't done anything but suck since The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Horrible idea but I wouldn't be suprised if they somewhat pull it off it they change it up a bit. 1.5 hours of eye gouging and head bonking will not simply work and I'd like to think both Hollywood and Oscar winning actors already know that going in. We shall see...

Jim Carrey was hilarious until he tried to get serious. Dumb & Dumber was his last good movie. Pet Detective is still my #2 favorite mindless comedy behind Superbad.

Bill, I used to watch Superhost religiously when I was a kid and loved every second of it. Saw every Stooges episode, King Kong, and every Gozdilla movie. When it is all you have, you know no better.

Favorite Stooges episodes in my youth were Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard, the one where they were attempting to repair the house, and the one where they had to put on a show and Moe acted like Hitler (Moe acting like Hitler wasn't my fav part, it's just how I identify the episode). I haven't seen an episode of The Three Stooges in about twenty years.

I would hope that these actors and the directors realize what a monumental task they are undertaking. I would hope that they are gambling on the remainder of their carers on this. I would hope the end product is a homage to comedy icons who brought special moments to some of us growing up.

But alas, .........................They WILL shit the bed and unfortunately their careers will go on. In addition to being a cesspool, Hollywood is forgiving...........

Three Stooges, hell, those guys couldn't play the Three Amigos! (which by the way, wasn't too bad and was probably the last laugh that CC or SM ever got)

Uncle Channels 3/5/8 and then 43/61 and finally, 25.

Super Host?

He was a late-comer. The Stooges were a staple of Captain Penny on Channel 5 in the 60's.

We always got "the parental disclaimer" telling us that poking out eyes and sawing heads was not funny in real life. Funny, I never wanted to try them until I started working so called "career" jobs.
