I guess we have enough safeties. A little surprised by this. Maybe Pool and Jones are ready to participate this year. Got a 4th rounder, which seems like a good deal to me.

A 4th sounds about right for Crocker. I'm a bit surprised as well, but this move signals one of four things:

(a) Savage and RAC think Poole is ready. (Russell starts over Jones IMO)

(b) Savage wants to give his pick the chance to play.

(c) Savage likes the idea of loading up on picks, in the event he has a chance to move up in one of the first-day rounds. (Could see us trading back into the 2nd maybe)

(d) Savage wants the extra 4th to trade to SD for Wilhelm, who would step in as a starting ILB.

I'm cool with a, c, and d. Not so much with b.

I'm a little surprised by this deal, though the reasons Lebowski listed are viable.

This is a big vote of confidence for Brodney Pool and Sean Jones, neither of whom have proven they are NFL caliber safeties.

I think if the Browns make any more semi-significant moves in FA, it will be to add a big physical strong safety.
