Website Time is off

Unread postby Lubber » Wed Mar 11, 2009 3:47 pm

Hey Swerb,
Looks like the website has not yet reflected the change in DST. Time is one hour behind.

There's an option in your control panel to turn on/off daylight savings time. That's what I did. It's just a yes/no thing in board preferences, IIRC, near the bottom.

Can you do it for him Stewie?

Like I said, he's a lazy tool.

Thanks Peeker, but when did we become Atlantic time instead of Eastern Time Zone?

Dude, the clocks went ahead an hour and I made the adjustment. My time is perfectly fine after that.

You, on the other hand, so full of questions and wanting to understand the theoretical implications of time zones, well you're an hour fucking off.

Kind of like a car in many ways. You may have a thirst for knowledge in regard to how they operate. I just want one that works. ;-) ;)

I do not live in CT. I am in Ohio (Eastern Time Zone), yet I had to change my preference to Atlantic Time Zone (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, etc) to get the correct time appearing on the message board.

Peeker... Excellent analogy, but I still want to know why/how things work :)

And I Like the show How It's Made. So I never have a problem with doing a forum version of it.

The software here has all the world time zone settings listed. Since we're based here in Ohio and the site deals with Cleveland, eastern is the choice.

There is also a server setting for the computer that serves the webpages to us all. We have to (not in this example) set the difference in hours (+ or -) of it to our time zone. If TCF was using a web host , as example, in California, we'd have to add the variance in time, +3.

Every member can then set their own time zone in their own control panel and it should be accurate. You will also note there is a setting there to 'turn on or off' DST.

The main forum control panel also has that option.

Some older/other versions of forum software asks the host on it's initial start up, if you want DST to be done automatically, Y or N...Clicking Y means, of course, you never have to manually adjust for it...

But this one didn't...Funny how they all do the same thing, but differently.

How it is Made is a great show. The DST setting was something I overlooked. Most software has that checked as default. No I am all set in EST with DST. Thanks Tribe Zone!!!

Man, I can't take a compliment, without giving one in return.

Rich , IMO, has done a fantastic job of building a place on the web for all us Cleveland Sports Fans to hang out at. With his 1 simple rule, it all works.

Rich has the right idea, it's all about building a community where everyone can come and contribute to it, and do it in their own style.

And I'm betting the best is yet to come.

Thanks for the compliment Rich!
