I haven't read the rest of the list, but Barley Brothers Brewery in Lake Havasu City, AZ, is the ONLY other Microbrewery I've been to that compares with Great Lakes.

My two favorite styles from BB are:
Beachball Red (A delicious Amber)
Tripleberry Wheat (Think Blue Moon, only tastier -- much, much tastier)

I see Stone from nearby Escondido is #1 they are supposed to have a pretty cool tour. I prefered the GL Christmas Ale to the Stone brews, but I've been know to get a Stone Double IPA when waiting for a table at my local Thai place. mmmm beer. Feels a little odd drinking brews out of a bag in front of the place but what the hell.

A really good smaller one is Pagosa Brewing, in Pagosa Springs, CO.

The guy there has won awards for several of his beers, and it's possible he'll be expanding to have a tap at Rockies games.

Yea I just realized another one of the top 10 are here in town I might have to check it out. I started hitting the ECA Stack and cutting carbs though so I haven't had any brewski's for two weeks.

Great Lakes' Dortmunder and Elliot Ness are great, however I love German Pilsners. Warsteiner makes a killer one but this tops it.

2. Three Floyds Brewing Company

I have had 3 of their beers and they are all very tasty. I still prefer Burning river to their Pale Ale, but it is a close 2nd. Had it on Saturday. Also have had Gumballhead. It is pretty decent. To me it is like a mix of a wheat beer and a pale ale with grapefruit afternotes. Solid beer, a little too fruity for my taste.

I wonder how big of a brewery they were looking at, I was at the Portsmouth Brewery, in New Hampshire, this past summer and they had recieved the award for best beer in 2008. I believe it is called "Kate the Great".

yeah, their "planet" means the U.S. this is an american site and all of the microbrews were from america. i am pretty sure the euros know what they are doing in the micro brew dept. as well.

Sure they do, however the biggest endoresment I have heard for GL is a guy I work with is from Croatia. He always makes fun of American beer. I told him to stop in GLB when he was going to Cle for something. He texted me from the place and said hands down Dortmunder was the best beer he had outside Munich.

Agreed. I lived a mile down the road from there and they do NOT f*ck around with quality beer at the Portsmouth Brewery. Red hook does a decent job down the street, as well.
