There appears to be a great number of Browns fans on this forum/board.

You need to find a volunteer to be your draft board commissioner.

Find 32 members and perform a mock draft prior to the actual draft.

There are enough members who read this forum also read the forums over on the Orange and Brown Report.

If you want some details one one method of how it could be done is by going to the Draft Brew Forum on that site.

We are conducting the fifth Annual Mock Draft. We have completed the majority of our sign-up with another 30+ days for past members to sign-up. We have about 20 return members and 15 to 20 new members, so it appears to provide adequate coverage.

I have not noticed this being conducted on this forum, although, I have not been that active in prior years.

One thing, I did notice while I was looking at the site blog pull down menu was Swerbsblurbs.com was on the sites available. It was good to see that.

Note: Timing is always interesting. I am planning to start my draft on March 9th. This is about 10+ days after the free agent market opens. The free agent market normally has the highest free agents signed to their new teams in the first 10 to 15 days. I try to have team owners select toward the needs of their team or best player available. It seems to work. Especially when the real draft is over and members can compare their results against the real teams.

I schedule 8 pick a night on an hour interval 4 to 12, Monday through Friday.

Again, this is a time consuming method. I am sure other methods are available. This will be the fifth year I am using this method.

We introduced the concept of trading draft picks only. I used a two day in advance transaction with both members sending me a PM. The commisssin approves all trades based on the draft chart which is always available. The Great Blue North Report has one which is pretty easy access.

A problem with the draft picks going into the end of the third round is the comp picks for lost free agents. So, depending upon when you start your draft, you may have to have a hold on it until Late March. Last year was the first year we had to hold up the draft for the publication of these picks.

I can't think of any other heads-up that you might have on this draft. If you have any questions or idea you want to discuss, please feel free to send me a PM. It is fun, but can be time consuming.

Two more points - You will want to get about 10 members on your wait list. Either assign teams as members drop out. Some of my best members have dropped out because of unplanned business travel, moving, wife, school or other personal reasons.

Make sure you have one or two members who can always provide a best 10 to 20 players not yet drafted. Something like Mel Kiper. Everyone knows who to draft in the first three rounds, after the fourth it gets complicated for some members. It is better to have an aid to some members who will continue to select instead of them getting frustrated and dropping out.

The timing of the picks sometimes is hard. I have my members PM me a list of picks in advance if they cannot make their scheduled time. If someone misses their pick due to traffic, a delayed plane or others, there is grace of letting them send in a pick late as long as the next schedule members have not already picked that player.

As the commissioner, you better keep the best player for each position. You might be providing quick picks for members who get delayed unexpectedly. It gets interesting.

Now you may plan your draft completely different than how I conduct mine.

If you want to look at my draft in 2008. Go to the DRAFT BREW FORUM on the Orange & Browns Report. If you go back to the 15th page of the 26 pages you will find three threads. One thread is for draft picks only, another is for draft pick discussion and a third thread was a mock draft of the 32 scout sites for each of the teams. There mock draft was held in a much shorter time frame and you might want to look at that detail to gather an alternate method.

Beyond this site having a mock draft (a good idea in its own right), we should start some sort of thread that compiles all the various mock drafts that have the Browns taking various players.

It would be interesting how many different sites have the same 1 or 2 players being taken by the Browns

I'd love to participate.

It was nice to see a forum member volunteer to administer the draft.

I found that having a drawing for one of the 32 members represent the Browns works pretty well.

Four teams I would like are

Cleveland
Detroit - Team I have run the past three or so years
Cincinnati
Kansas City

I am going to give this some time to fill up. Would like to have the 32 spots filled by February 8th and start the draft February 23. If we can get 10 picks in each day it will take ~50 days to complete. That would finish it April 13th. Gives us almost 2 full weeks of wiggle room before the actual draft.

Gave Swerb the Browns. Only seems fair.

I am going to hope to not take a team. I think I will have enough to do keeping this thing running, that will be enough for my interest.

Going to take 32 people. Hopefully we get a few people who are willing to be back ups in case someone craps out.

A couple of things you might want to consider.

If you start your draft to early, the accuracy of the draft is limited.

The major free agent signings and significant trades happen the first few days to ten days after free agency starts. This will impact the primary needs of teams.

The NFL awards the extra picks based on the previous seasons free agent losses and gains. This starts at the end of the third round. The awarding of approximately 32 selections. Again, some teams get enough extra picks to be important. This happens in late March.

Again, I noticed you are thinking about not taking a team. I can appreciate not taking a team because of the time commitment it takes to run the draft. However, the fun of running the draft is participating by taking a team. If you set-up your draft board prior to the start of the draft, your selection process should not be time consuming. I will admit, if you find yourself selecting for teams that member's done show up on a timely basis, just don't use your team's potential selections to fill in the other selections.

Is the amount of inactivity, one week indicate that no one else on this forum wants to sign up?

I mentioned to our commissioner, I could find a potential of five to ten members if needed.

I believe I have a waiting list which could be 10 to 20 members on another site - Mock Draft we are scheduling.

Again, if lack of interest on this board, I saw a few members mentioning taking two teams. This is an option to consider.

I just knew, I wanted to see this thread stay on the front page.

It is good fun.
