Pavlik/Rubio and Cotto vs Michael Jennings will be a dual site PPV card on Feb 21. $29.95.

IMO, boxing needs to do more of this on the fights that HBO and Showtime pass on. So many times (Roy Jones/Trinidad), you see an unwatchable fight on PPV that also has a weak undercard. Even the big PPV fights, the undercards are generally awful. It's something I've never understood. Take Pac Man/DelaHoya for example. That was a huge beef. How can you not have a pretty damn good top undercard scrap for a fight like that. Stat I heard was that in the three underbard bouts before Manny/Oscar, the three losing fighters landed a combined 14 punches.

Undercards to me are the biggest difference between mma and boxing. You get a hell of a lot more bang for your buck.
UFCs usually have at least seven quality fights.
Boxing recently has had crap on huge PPV fights.

Any chance KP will ever fight at the Q, that'd be fun.

I'd like to see it but I doubt it. It would have to be a big name for a venue like that and Vegas or AC gets those fights.
There were talks of him fighting at the Browns Stadium and that never happened.
I'm trying to see when tickets go on sale for this fight and I'm having no luck.

Tickets go on sale at 10:00am this Saturday and will go fast. I expect it to be sold out within a week. Here is a link to the venue.

Dr-They also have an MMA event on the 17th that looks pretty interesting as far as local events go.

Thanks.
I checked that site a few days back and had no luck. Tickets aren't very cheap that's for damn sure. I guess they can do that knowing it will sell out no matter what.
King of the Cage event should be good, a friend of the site, Brian Rogers(aka The Predator) is on the card.

Any undercard for the Pavlik/Rubio fight?

Dying to see Kelly fight in person ... but damn. Decent seats are $300-$500.

I've heard similar comments about the tickets prices...although they're comparable to what I've paid in AC and Vegas so I'm not really surprised. It is a championship fight too so that factors in as far as the payouts, etc. All the seats in the Chevy Centre have a good view so I don't think anyone with a $50 seat is going to be disappointed.

As far as value goes though, the PPV is a much better deal when you factor in the Cotto fight. Also, I don't know who is on the Pavlik/Rubio undercard...hopefully some decent bouts to complement the 5-6fights that break out in the stands leading up to the main event (OIY).

I've only seen Rubio fight a few times, he was on Pavlik-Hopkins undercard. Beat a few decent guys.
He's a straight ahead guy, typical Mexican fighter. Takes punishment and keeps coming.
This will be no cakewalk for Kelly.

I've been to a fight in Vegas, a PPV title fight and got better tickets for less money. UFCs also.
The undercard will probably be local guys, don't expect any name fighters becuase of the way the PPV is setup.

I'm not saying there aren't cheaper tickets for a fight...heck for the Gamboa fight on FNF tomorrow I bet you can get the best seat in the house < $40, but you won't get anything but a bloody nose and a headache from squinting for that at the Margarito/Mosley fight.

I've paid $20-$30 for local MMA and boxing shows that were mixed cards so an extra $25 or so doesn't seem that bad for a PPV championship fight...it's all relative (at least in my mind) I think a lot of people were expecting lower prices because it's in Youngstown, but Super Bowl tickets aren't cheaper when it's in Detroit and Final Four tickets aren't cheaper when it's in Indy.

Rubio will be a tough fight as well...this is no Gary Lockett mandatory.

PPV will be the normal 44.95, not the 30 that was rumored.
No other fights announced on either card, and the fight is just over a month away.

I like the idea of packaging the fight on PPV with Pavlik/Rubio and Cotto/Jennings...and it's still not a bad buy for the $44.95. However, I find it ironic how as of Friday the 9th the PPV price was $29.95 and then when 5,500 tickets for the Pavlik fight in 30 minutes the next price you see for the PPV is $44.95.

I still haven't heard anything on the undercard either. I'm willing to bet that most, if not all, of the PPV undercard fights will be from the MSG card. I know they are televising the Cotto/Jennings fight inside the Chevy Centre before the Pavlik fight too.

I am still waiting on the application for press credentials.
Not much talk about it and it's only 2 plus weeks away.
I see it's not sold out yet.

John Duddy (25-0) on the undercard fighting Matt Vanda. Also, Anthony Peterson (28-0) taking on Edner Cherry.

Interview with Pavlik in todays PD reveals something I had never heard before. Pavlik says he was less than 50% for the BHop fight with a bad case of bronchitis and bursitis and tendinitis in his elbow.

I think he needs you to come out and call for him to lose again, like you did in the two Taylor fights. And the Miranda fight.

Brutal, bloody 5th rd KO by Kelly. Ghost will re-establish himself next Sat and rule middleweight for the next 2-3 years.

I did say his choice to fight Hopkins was terrible and what happened?
He better win or he is in trouble.
I don't think I picked Miranda to beat him and you've been known to make shit up.
Rubio TKO 2nd round.
That's so Kelly can get back on track.
It won't be as easy as people think, but Kelly will win for the home crowd.

I tried to get in through a contact that I have in order to take pictures but Top Rank, the promotor, told them only if I ponied up some $$. It was in the four figure range and they get the originals by "asking" me to turn over the memory card to my camera.

I'm in, just bought the tickets today. We're in section 103 on the floor...these are the seats they just released a couple of weeks ago.

Dr-would like to buy you a cold one (or whatever you're drinking fight night). Let me know what your schedule is going to look like on Saturday and we'll see if we can show you some Ytown hospitality (sounds like an oxymoron I imagine). My brothers and I will probably head down to the Chevy Centre around 6:00.

Sounds good. The doors open at 7:00 and I'm sure there is going to be a substantial crowd downtown above and beyond the 7,000 or so at the Chevy Centre.

Parking for this event is going to be a real conundrum and you're welcome to ride in with us.

If there is no undercard, when will the fight actually start?

I am planning to hit the corner bar.

Any help appreciated.

JB, I'd get there about 4 PM to play it safe.

Fired up for this one Sat. Not just the Kelly fight, but the return of Cotto after the Margarito debacle. Also looking forward to finally seeing Duddy, as well as the Peterson/Cherry scrap.

I have press credentials and have a bad feeling about how this whole dual PPV will go down. I hope I'm wrong.
I better be able to see the Cotto fight.
Here is what I got in an email along with my credentials:

*FIGHT DAY SCHEDULE (subject to change)
6 – 10 pm Credential Distribution at Chevrolet Centre
TBD Doors open
7:30pm First bout
11:00 pm Main Event
The Post Fight Press Conference will take place shortly after the Main Event. Location TBD.

Kelly weighed in at 159 and Rubio 160. Both looked fit and ready. I'd say that Kelly has a 2-3 inch height advantage. Good turnout too, close to 1,000 people I'd say.

For the record, if anyone ever wonders about buying tix to the Chevy Centre, you are close no matter what ticket you buy.

Also this crowd is out for blood. Anything less than a knockout will send the crowd home disappointed.

Dominating first round. Can't see this going more than 3-4 rounds. Rubio looks terrified. Threw like 6 punches that round.

This is classic ... Rubio's corner is losing it on him. Not sure what this meatball is doing. Opportunity of Rubio's lifetime, and he looks scared shitless and has thrown like 10 punches.

Finish him Kelly.
