Bars in the area?

I read the thread below on neighborhood bars, but I'm looking for something a little more mainstream in Cleveland. A few of my buddies, my brother, and I are going to be in town for the Twins weekend series (Jul 27th). We were thinking of coming up on the thursday and going out that night as well as Friday, and I'm not all that familiar with the area.

So where in town can we hit up a strip of sorts where we can barhop (live music preferred)?. Not that it really matters, but we are all mid-late 20's just to give you an idea. Thanks in advance for the help guys.

There are a lot of bar hopping availabilities in Lakewood on Madison Ave. As for downtown, West 6th is probably the spot, but there's a strict dress code. Your best bet after the game may be to hop from Local Heroes (formerly Alice Cooperstown) out beyond the RF stands at the Jake and transfer to Panini's or the Clevelander.

There is both a Hard Rock and a House of Blues right in downtown, that offer live music a lot. I would definitely look into both of them if I was coming into town for a weekend.

Is The Flats officially dead, or just on life support? Even when I return for the annual summer trip, I no longer venture there.

Bayou, House of Blues is excellent. Good food, several different bars, great live music.

Also, there's alot of other cool stuff right in that area .... including Pickwick & Frolic, which has a comedy club, martini bar, restaraunt, and all kinds of other stuff in there. It's literally right across the street from House of Blues.

And it's all just a stones throw from The Jake.

There's also a slew of other good bars in that area that don't have live music.

Is The Flats officially dead, or just on life support?

I've read alot about this, and I'm curious of the status as well. It seemed like such a good idea for a club cene, I was a little surprised to read about it's fall in ppularity.

It's dead. The more happening areas are now West 6th, the Warehosue District, and the area I mentioned above.

There was one summer where there were a slew of fights in the flats. A couple people died. One from getting knocked in the water during a fight, and I think another person drowned after partying on a docked boat.

Police presence intensified ... and the good bars slowly began pulling out.

It's a shame .... it's such a cool area down there. Nothing was better than going to Indians games in the late 90's, then partying your ass off in the Flats after.

I haven't been there in 6+ years but is E.185 still worth mentioning? I know it is out of the DT area, but I am told I have many good memories down there.

Stay away from 185th, unless you like trailer trash bars. It is definately NOT what it used to be. A friend of mine's father used to own the Old World Tavern, and pretty much lived their. The 185th street festival went straight downhill. Junior's (If it's still their) Has/had great burgers.
Winking Lizard downtown is always a hot spot, especially after games.

185th can get dangerous if you make a wrong turn or two, I would stay away.

2 guys I knew were shot not far from 185th.

18filth isnt what it used to be, how many have made it all the way down in a night? The one and only time I did that I was hung over for 2 days.

Wow. Probably 3-4 wasted years of my youth. Going down to the Flats in the summer every Thurs, Fri and Sat. Hitting up Shooters, Basement, Beach Club, BAR Cleveland, etc. Man, great times. Sex, beer and rock'n'roll baybee.

Man, used to love it. Also, the Field of Dreams during the Tribe playoffs at Nautica. I remember the bi-centenniel celebration year in 1996, that was probably the Flats at its peak that year.

The Basement was the place to be back in the day. That place was ALWAYS packed, and the line to get in was insane. Me and my buddies used to go there often,(we knew a guy who worked the door) and then get our grub on at Pannini's. As Swerb said the new place to be is the warehouse district, The Flats are now run down. Man, this brings back memories. Now, a much older me, would much rather just sit at home, or in the back yard with an occasional cold one. How times have changed.

anyway, downtownwise, you're best bet is W. 6th. other than that, Lakewood on Detroit, Coventry area, and Parma all have good bars w/ live music.
