Cavaliers obtain Nailon and Murray (was Trade rumors)

There's a rumor on the AZCentral forums about Gooden to the Suns for Leandro Barbosa. A 1st round pick might be involved.

Well. if it is Gooden for Barbosa and a 1st rounder from the Suns, I just might think about it.

Barbosa is the kind of "scoring" PG that can keep offenses more honest when defending. The problem the Cavaliers continue to find are defenders sagging off of Snow and clogging up the lane.

Granted, it would leave a big hole at the PF spot, one that Henderson and Varejao can't fill. At the same time, Barbosa has shown some really nice talent, and the ability to distribute as well.

Think we could pry Kurt Thomas away from them?

Trade deadline Thurs night. I would say there is about a 50% chance Ferry does something, and if he does, it will be something minor.

I just don't see Ferry doing anything that could hurt the team going forward (taking on a big contract on an average player) in order to get a quick fix for this season. If anything is done, it will be adding a Jimmy Jackson type for a spare part and a 2nd rd pick.

Lets face it, despite the fact the Cavs do have some flaws, they are still likely the 4th best team in the East even without Hughes. No trade they could make would vault them past the Pistons, so the Cavs are resigned to the 4 seed and a 2nd rd series vs Detroit no matter how well they finish. And while no one from the team would admit this publicly, even if they were to slip to the 6 seed, matchups with NJ and then MIA bay be a blessing in disguise as opposed to MIL/IND and then DET.

Cavs would be foolish to trade Drew Gooden now unless overwhelmed, and they haven't been. Provided Drew keeps playing hard and posting double/doubles, the Cavs should be able to get a couple great pieces for him in the off-season from someone desperate for a 4 in a sign and trade.

Yeah, I was talking to a co-worker tonight.....and we came to the same conclusion. We just don't have enough to send back in salary or ending contracts to get anything of significance.....and we most likely do a deal for a Jiri Welsh type like last year. Not a piece of shit talent like Welsh, but a deal a long those lines to get a 7th/8th/9th option off the bench. I still think a deal for defense down low would be nice.

•DELK RUMORS: Hawks co-captain Al Harrington isn't the only player on the roster whose name is being bantered about as the trade deadline approaches. Veteran point guard Tony Delk could be in play before Thursday afternoon if a deal can be struck.

The teams most often mentioned include Miami and Cleveland, which are in need of veteran help in the backcourt and an expiring contract, both of which Delk would provide.

The Hawks could also decide to buy out Delk's contract, allowing him to sign with elsewhere for the remainder of the season.

Delk, who declined comment before Tuesday's game, has played in just one game this season. He logged a little over seven minutes in a loss to Sacramento.

What the cavs need most this year?

A solid finish and a playoff birth to wash the flavor of the 2nd half of last year out of the mouths of the players and the fans. Nothing they can do will avert them from a second round exit (short of winning about 33% of their games and falling to 6th in the East) at the hand of the pistons. They are best to not mess with the continuity of the team down the stretch by moving one of their most productive players.

Hell, with Gooden the cavs probably win their 1st round series without him they may lose it especially if they lose home court. The cavs really dont do that great on the road against playoff teams, but who does.

The Francis trade just shows you are better off being over the cap so you have crappy large ending contracts to trade in these deals. The Cavaliers are fucked because they really have no one except Z or Hughes who commands big money to matchup in these deals.

Perhaps the most intriguing team is Cleveland, which supposedly has been talking with the Los Angeles Lakers about a deal for Odom. With Larry Hughes out, the Cavs are desperate for some help for LeBron James and anxious to be rid of Damon Jones.

It's uncertain what other names have been mentioned, although the often-lethargic Odom is coming off his best game of the season with 20 points and 17 rebounds. The Lakers also offered Odom to the Knicks for Channing Frye, but the Knicks rejected that idea.

According to the Houston Chroncile Derek Anderson is attracting some interest, with up to five teams considering acquiring the shooting guard.

The Rockets have tried to complete a deal to move Anderson to the Heat, Cavaliers, Lakers, Nuggets or Magic.

The Cavaliers and Seattle Supersonics have agreed in principal on a trade involving Sonics shooting guard Flip Murray and Cavs backup point guard Mike Wilks.

The deal was struck before Thursday's 3 p.m. trading deadline and is expected to be announced later in the day, according to an NBA source.

Murray, in his fourth season, is averging 9.9 points per game for Seattle, including a 29-point effort against Boston on Dec. 26. In his career, he averages 9.6 points per game.

Wilks has seen little playing time as the Cavs third point guard behind Eric Snow and Damon Jones. He is averaging just over one point per game.

Better than nothing. Flip Murray has played well in the past and Nailon is a big body. Gave up absolutely nothing. Not real inspiring though. Probably nothing spectacular available.

Ferry was on the Mike Brown show on WTAM, said Nailon will likley never suit up for the Cavs. Took on some $$$ so the Sixers would save luxury tax $$$, and picked up a #2 this year for doing so.

Love getting Flip for nothing. He can get to the hole and defend as well.

Couple nice little moves, good to see Gilbert continuing to spare no costs for this squad.

We get Flip for someone who never plays...good move. (Btw, Flip torched us earlier this season)

Murray is at his best off the dribble, which is something that should help us. Only Lebron can consistently penetrate the defense.
