This Saturday night on HBO you need to see the biggest rising star in the sport.
Yuriorkis Gamboa.
Fastest hands I have seen in a long long time, comparable to Roy Jones Jr. in his prime and also Mayweather Jr.
This guy will be a champion and top 10 pound for pound fighter by the end of 2009 if not earlier.
Simply amazing, don't miss it.

Last time Gamboa was on, I tuned in like 3 minutes late and the fight was already over.

Good win against a very tough guy last night.
Gamboa was knocked down(not hurt) and won all the other 9 rounds.
If he works on his defense, he will be a force in the fight game.

Little sloppy, needs some help technically and defensively. And if he tries to keep his hands down all fight like that against a Pacquiao or a Juan Manuel, they'll knock his head off.

The talent is obvious though. And that was no meatball he fought last night. Dude had heart.

Who's next for him? A Rocky Juarez-type?

Other kid I'm dying to see at around that same weight is Amir Khan from the UK. Supposed to have mad skills as well. Only a matter of time before hes on a HBO or Showtime card. Maybe on the undercard of one of the Hatton fights HBO still has him under contract for.

Khan is another good solid fighter. I saw him fight twice and the power is the big question with him. Good overall skills.

Gamboa is too cocky for his own good. The skill is obvious.
His chin looked pretty damn good, he was hit with some solid shots.
His next fight is set for June 27, against 25-6-1 Jose Rojas.
Not sure if that will change or not.

I love Berto also.
Gamboa has basically been bred to be a boxer.
Learn that defense and the sky is the limit. His style is entertaining and will sell tickets, no doubt about that.

The 2004 Olympic gold medallist will be back in action on June 27th when he is meant to fight Jose “Cheo” Rojas. By beating WBA #2 ranked Rojas “El Ciclon de Guantanmo” (currently ranked on #3) could get very close to become world champion in only his second year as a professional.

The only thing that impresses me about Gamboa is his hand speed. Other then that he is very sloppy, and does'nt seem to have very heavy hands. As of right now the kid is a KO waiting to happen. That being said If he could learn some D he would be unstoppable, but if that happens his fights won't be nearly as exciting.

I am going to respectfully disagree.
If he learned defense and the only thing you see in him is hand speed, he then would still have a lot to improve on and wouldn't be unstoppable correct?

He does have some room for improvement, mostly from a defensive standpoint.
His speed is great, hands and body. Pretty good power. Excellent chin. Experience is huge and he has it from his am. days.
He's hungry and has that "it" factor.

The reason I say he would be unstoppable is because with that kind of hand speed he can score at will, and if he learns some D he can simply win every fight by never mixing it up and boxing off his back foot.

Like I said right now the kid is a KO waiting to happen. As long as he keeps that style, and insist on mixing it up rather than boxing and using his natural advantages to there fullest he will never be a great fighter.
