Yes. You should probably try to recall how badly Carmona and CC played long before you fixate over Blake. They cost us a WS chance, not him.

He did hit nearly .350 in that series against Boston, after all.

No. Not even close. He's not a guy expected to be driving the production of this team. It's those guys who aren't getting the job done. Blame Hafner. Blame Sizemore's slump. Blame Garko's slump. WiscTribeFan is right. Blake is not the problem. He looks bad on a lot of at-bats and he's no threat to win the batting crown, but he gets a lot of mileage out of his hits. And he's one of the few players on this team who can score from second on a single.

It's like the scouts told Tony - he has trouble with the inside stuff because he needs to extend his arms and he's a sucker for the breaking stuff away. How odd. Perhaps Blake's biggest critic when it comes to hitting with RISP failing to provide Blake's RISP for the period he cites. In this period he was 1 for 4 (a double) .250/.500/.400/..900.


The thread topic is "benching" Blake not "sitting" him for a game or two. If you want to offer arguments why he should be sat for a game beyond having a bad week I surely would consider it.

I will say this about Blake. I think he is much better suited as a super utility guy. I like him in that position more than i do as an every day third baseman. I think it serves the team better as well.

If Marte gets some playing time, and looks very good, we may have found our long-term solution to 3B. Blake will be gone next year, either way.

If Marte plays, and looks pretty good, at least he improves his trade value.

I'm having a hard time imagining Marte playing and being much worse than Blake offensively. And I personally don't expect much from Marte (maybe .230, 10, 60 in a full first year). His defense is superior to Blake's, so I see no downside.

I could see Blake spelling Garko 1X/week, Gutierrez 1X/week, and Marte 1x/week. That's plenty of AB's.

Wasn't this also a problem for three other guys? I recall Gutierrez looking even worse in his AB before Droobs came up with the big knock.

And trust me, once Blake it gone, everyone will likely shift their attention to the next punching bag.

Wedgie has a man crush on Blake & as we've seen in the past, whoever is in Wedgie's doghouse sits the bench or is traded while his boys get most of the AB's.

Casey is going on 35. I don't see any team offering him a multi-year deal next winter, so he'll probably come back for at least 1 more season with the Tribe.

I'm not against him coming back for 1 more year at a reasonable price just as long as he doesn't start 95% of the games, but if Wedge is the manager, he will.

Blake stand out because he has no upside. The Delucci/Michaels platoon on paper is great and atm Delucci is playine well. Franky has huge upside. Cabrera is such a good fielder and Garko has shown he can flat hit. Casey at his best is average. Since he is not playing well find out what Marte can do. Give him the month of May, you gave Blake April lets see what happens..very little to lose.

Y'Know, there's something to be said about doing many things (like playing every position in the field) well enough to warrant a roster spot. But, as the saying goes...jack of all trades, master of none!!!

If Casey Jake doesn't embody that saying, I don't know who does. The guy gives away as many games jaking it in the clutch as he does when he comes through, so he is a wash in the clutch category.

But it's the day-to-day #s where this guy needs work...and a lot of it. He is barely hitting above the Mendoza line and that won't improve if he has the same BA in a couple weeks.

Casey Jake is a liability if he is hitting anywhere other than 9th in the order. (I would prefer him to hit 10th on days when Sabathia is on the hill, but that's just me).

Thankfully, this chump is a FA after this season. Shapiro should turn into the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man if he is even thinking about signing this AAAA player to another deal.
