Link is blocked here. I know they were talking about that. Having a month or so off before the final table so they can kind of build up the interest and the identities of the players and make it a national event with more interest.

I thought it was set to happen in '09 though.

A lot of people think it's a great idea. I'm fine with it as it is.
For one:
it now eliminates the PPV Final Table which I enjoy.
the final table will not be live
too much unsavory shit can happen in a month with all that cash on the line
perhaps the only advantage unknown players have at that table is their anonymity. that's gone with time to research the participants, their friends, their families, their home games, etc.

The people will benefit from sponsorship ads though. They'll be a month or two of bidding by the online people for each final table member to wear their gear.

I dunno. I just don't like it as much.

Part of me loves it, as it will be something to look forward to as the taped coverage that ESPN shows of all the events winds down in the fall.

It does suck watching The Main Event knowing what happened already.

That said, part of what makes the final table of the main event so great is the mental grind those players have gone through over the last 7-8 days to get there. Now they'll get to come back refreshed and with full scouting reports on their rivals. It also opens things up to tomfoolery. Wouldn't surprise me at all to hear 4-5 years from now to hear it exposed that two guys worked as a team with months to prepare and plot for this thing.

Still can't believe Jerry Yang won this thing last year. Still have nightmares of that shriek he kept belting out.

Anyone who enjoys gambling, good writing, drinking, smoking, pharmies in general, Vegas, etc has got to make this site part of their daily routine.

http://taopoker.blogspot.com/

The writing is brilliant. Sometimes dark, sometimes not. If you have a minute or 120, go back to last year's WSOP month and read his posts. When he gets run down the writing is just beautiful. Dark, edgy and just very good.

You can check out the Tuesday April 8th post for more details on this WSOP news.

That's where I read it initially and it's why I thought it'd be '09 before they did it. Didn't think they'd have time to think it through and implement yet.

I do not miss a day on Pauly's site. Not one. If he doesn't post I'm pissed.

This is stupid and I guarantee that the players, both amateurs and professionals really hate this.

So what happens if you go card dead in playing between June/July and November. You set yourself up to get smoked at the Final Table. And all of us have gone card dead before.

What a terrible idea.

Negreanu sums it up here.

He was part of a coalition of players that voted for it. More for long term reasons than due to beig in love with a three month break. Bill Edler and '07 WSOP Player of the year were also in favor ( http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news/ar ... ate-change ). There are some pros who were most decidedly against it.

As someone who watched the ppv event I'm going to miss it.

Agreed. And like you say, I mean, it's not an unfair advantage to have a book on a player, because they all will be able to now. But, to me, it takes away from the game.

If I were to make the Final Table, how could I live my life for 4 months thinking about it. I'd be a basket case. Sure, I would be able to keep in mind that I had a good shot at being a millionaire, but I'd make myself sick being anxious about it.
