Shoppach will be a nice catcher. We'll have to wait to see if he's ready. How would it look w/ Enar starting @ the 2 with Shoppach on the pine. Lets put Victor @ 1st to prolong his career and using Brousssard as trade bait in a package for a Beltre, Rolan, etc? It would be a bitch of a transition but why not?

With all due respect.....no fing way Diaz starts. No way. The thought of him starting at catcher makes me want to vomit all over my keyboard.
Folks, Victor is not moving to 1B anytime soon. Maybe in 5-6 years he'll make the position switch, but not now. He is an all-star catcher. Besides, the organization is loaded with 1B hopefuls (Head, Aubrey, Garko, Mulhern).

Then get one of them up here and send Brousard his walking papers. He is a stiff 50% of the time, decent 40% of the time and good the other 10%.

I think Shapiro should encourage Broussard to explore his options in music!
As for moving Martinez and brining in Diaz, are you serious? Martinez is a first tier offensive star as a catcher. As a first baseman his numbers would be slightly above average. There are a lot of HITTING first baseman and not many hitting catchers.

There you go again hating on Broussard.
The guy is pretty much the best example for "major league average" as far as 1B go. Which means he is decent most of the time, and great or bad every so often.
No way I move Victor though. Hitting catchers are a rarity.....and as Furls pointed out, Victor becomes less a force at 1B....you just don't maximize his value with him there.

That is a classic.
Broussard is easy to hate for a couple reasons.
He looks like a stiff. And was the poster boy of the teams collapse in the seasons final week. Dude gorked in more big situations that final week than some people do in a career.

it can't happen until 07, but instead of moving Martinez to 1b fulltime - why not (shudder0 trade Hafner? He can yield a lot in return - Martinez/Garko/Shoppach can rotate between 1b/c/dh.
