been a while since Ive been back home, but everytime I do - mama santas in little italy is one of my first stops. it just dont get any better than that fellas.

Mama Santas is top notch.

I've always liked Guiseppe's. I grew up in Willowick with one in my backyard, and theres a real good one out in Mentor as well now. The square pies, great crust. Love their pepperoni & onion.

Also, I love the Donato's thin crust Chicken Mariachi. That is one bad ass pizza. Of all the chains, Donatos is one of my favorites.

I will say though, Lake County has alot of pizza places, but little in the way of really authentic everything from scratch old school pizza places.

Mama Santa's is the best. Try their homemade cavatelli -- as close to homemade as you can get!

I went to Case Western for a year and a half and I used to spend nearly every dollar I had at Mama Santas. That just shows you how broke I was!

I think when I was there (1994-95) it was about 5.00 for a 16" pepperoni pizza. The pizza was huge and it was worth 3X that.

Whats everyones opinion on Zeppes?

I always heart good things from people. Every time I get it ... its crap. I always tell myself thats the last time, then inevitably, someone tells me how much they love Zeppes pizza so I try it again out of curiousity ... thinking maybe Im catching em on bad days.

I've gotten hooked on Romeo's Pizza since moving to Twinsburg.

Best pizza sauce I've tasted from any chain, ever. Their toppings are also excellent. Thick meat, and thinkly shaved and very fresh vegetable toppings.

Their pepperoni and red onion pizza is awesome.

Since I'm not from Cleveland, but visit friends on a regular basis, I have to weigh in on my choices. . .although I cannot recall the name at this time, I do believe it is a local chain though, there is a pizza shop in the Parma area that has THE BEST pepperoni rolls I have ever eaten. Does anyone know what place I'm referring to?

If anyone is out in the Fairport area, my Dad and I opened a place up last April and things are getting to the point where the product is very good. It's called Skipper's pizza & more. :-) :smile: :)

I don't know if it is still there but near Dille Rd.-St. Clair there was a place called Romito's. Awesome pie and they could churn out sheets in virually no time at all. Excellent drunk absorption quality.

when I lived in Old Brooklyn, Dongi's Pizza on Broadview Rd was the best. Huge menu too. Thier take on the Roman Burger is outstanding.

The real question should be who has the worst pizza, b/c it is HARD to screw up pizza.

Pizza pan is pretty bad, has some value b/c of how much you get but otherwise it is awful IMO.

A few other bad ones near me but they are mom & pop places that most wouldn't know I bet.

Messina's Pizza & Bakery in Collinwood on Ivanhoe rd.(simply the best) the family also ownes the restaurant and bar down the street-Mirabiles Ivanhoe Inn. That family has been in that neighborhood since the'20's

Mama Santa's still up and operational? I have this fantasy of going back to little Italy on a warm summer evening after an afternoon ballgame at the Jake, and smelling the smells and eating the eats. Then concluding the night by sitting at that pond over by severance hall with a warm cup of cappucino and a Biscotti at dusk.

I always wanted to sit on one of those benches over there and just take in the sights, it really was beautiful. I always meant to do it, but I never did.

Teresa's are still around. 5 or 6 that I know of in NE OH, including one right down the street from where I am.

So far, looks like no west siders have chimed in so I'll cast my vote for Roman Fountain in Lakewood. The Destroyer: a deluxe plus salami, ham, sliced tomato and banana pepper is awesome. You can't get this one too often unless you plan on funding your cardiologist's retirement, but it's still good eatin' just the same.

Angelo's isn't horrible, but I just wish they wouldn't spin their dough in corn meal that has the consistency of rock salt.

They have always used a coarse grade corn meal to spin their dough prior to sending off the pie to the make area and the oven. It gives their bottom crust too mealy a texture. Otherwise, their sauce and toppings are first rate.

Since Grafton Street Pub doesn't serve food, Angelo's isn't a bad option for carry out over there, especially since they are located a couple blocks down. Mix in a deluxe with a couple Carlsberg's on draught over there and that should do it.

I agree the sauce is top notch. My first job was there as a dishwasher in high school. I guess I did a crappy job due to the fact that some calls were made complaining that the pizza had a "soapy" taste one night. Oops...I wasn't rinsing out the sauce buckets too well that night. That was over 10 years ago so everyone's safe.

The best Za in C-town is actually in Y-town. I grew up in C-town and been a few other places, but dang! Y-town's italians got it going on.

They do this really light crust Abruzzi style, an dthey also rock out the Brier Hill style, which is red sauce, romano and red and green peppers only. That's it. It's amazing.

So far, down here my favs are Inner Cricle, Cornersberg, and two little places; LaRocca's in Poland and the legendary Elmton in Struthers. You can get this amazing hand made, cooked in an old school pizza oven and they still have Strohs there. It's cheap and it is a classic family owned dive where the locals keep their beer mugs there. Oh, and Wedgewood and Iannazone's are pretty good too. Bellaria is just awe-ite. But I'm tellin' yah there was nothing nearly this good anywhere but Mayfield Rd in C-town.

Shout out to my boi in Canton. I fell bad for you, dawg. Kraus and the pizza oven and yer pizza range from generic to aweful IMhO. Kraus' tastes like that sheet stuff they used to feed you in grade school , complete with flavaless rabbit crap style sausage. I used to like even Pappa John's better when I lived in Stark Co , they were so lame. If Y-town is too far, then do Napoli's downtown Canton. Get their stuffed crust. You eat like 2 slices and you're ready for a nap. Their classic thin is awesome, too.

Luigi's in Akron is almost as good as run of the mill Y-town pizza.

If you are just into quantity for the least amount of $ try em, it isn't bad pizza, way way better than that disgusting Pizza Pan crap, I now understand why they give you two free ones when you come pick up the one you ordered.
