I've been with a wonderful woman for over 7 years, and even though we've been engaged for a long time, we're finally taking the next step. July 9 we are going before a judge and making it for real.

So, if anybody wants to tell me their horror stories, or tell me how great it's going to be, I'd love to hear it.

Been married for 14 months now, and it is great. It's not going to be that much of a change for year 1. Maybe some of the more seasoned guys can give you an idea of how it is post-year 1.

It's work J. Hard work. 18 years for me. She was too young to drink on our honeymoon. There ain't no magic words man but I wish you both all the luck in the world.

Coincidentally (I'm sure) I now can't tear her away from the Wild Turkey. :eek :shock:

Congrats, and I admire you for sharing with a group of virtual strangers/friends. 7 years is a good proving ground. It will be the same, but better if not more intense. Agree now on a few imporatnt things - kids and money I wish you the best of luck. I'm far from an expert, but the common sense approach works - be open, honest, and treat each other with respect at all times. Even if you temporarily hate each others guts. Ignore the stupid cliches like "love means never having to say you're sorry" - what a bunch of baloney. Admit when you screw up and ask forgiveness. Also, don't be afraid to go to sleep mad at each other. The make up sex is much better the next morning. 8) :cool: 8-)

17 years here with a 3 year exhibition schedule prior to that (living in sin). Peeks is right, alot of work, you will be amazed at how many rough edges still exist on a stone after years of wear and tear. I would do it all over again with the same girl. Good luck and watch out for years 5-7. :twisted:

This is year 17 for me.

My best times with my wife seems to be when she drinks consistently. I don't mean stupid dumb drunk broad stuff, just consistently sipping wine, or brewski's.

It will be 5 years for me soon.
We get along just as good as we did when we started dating 9 years ago.
Be yourself and don't change anything just because it's "Official" and you'll be fine.

That's exactly how I see it, Pipe. If you can make it at least 5 years and still be in love, then it's time to get married. It's not the most romantic sentiment, but dammit it's realistic.

It's been 20 years of marriage for me.

8 to the loon I married right out of high school.

8 to the psycho bitch I got off the rebound from #1.

And 6 years this last Sunday to the current wife...who was so cool about it also being Fathers Day that she let me watch the U.S. Open all day without any nagging (the $400 Sirius radio/Wi-Fi/IPod combo I gave her for an anniversary gift might have helped in that department).

If I mess this one up, I'm done with it all.

Wow, Mitch. You've been through the wars. I am one-and-done. The 7+ year wait really solidified to me that this is the one to make official. If for some strange reason it doesn't work, I'll go back to living alone or living in sin. Unless Jennifer Connelly shows up at my door and wants to get hitched.

It's done, I got hitched this morning. I got a day off work out of it, so that's cool!

Actually, it was really nice. The judge was real cool, and although we had to wait for him, the ceremony was nice, short, and sweet. Jen's already a little mad because I'm having trouble getting used to wearing the ring and took it off for a while.
