Anyone ever suffer this wrath of God affliction? I am going through it now, no doubt from my week of excess at the tailgate, Tribe playoffs, and the subsequent return home to the beach. The Doc says lay off of alcohol, red meat, shellfish, I told her, "put an air bubble in my aorta NOW, how about some drugs?"

I once worked with a couple of guys who had this, one drank like a fish (putting down a case every night), and the other one was just old. This is a very uncomfortable thing to go through. Both of these guys walked VERY slow with severe limps. The gout affected both ankles and elbows on both of these guys. Good luck.

I am not old yet and although I aspire to a case a night am nowhere near that kind of production. Thank you.

If your doctor hasn't already prescribed either of these medications, I'd inquire about them:

Indocin-good medication for ACUTE gout attacks

Allpurinol- good "maintenance" medication to control the attacks

I am on indocin now...seems to winning the war. Tried allopurinol, my face and skin turned as red as Chief Wahoo. It was so red the Physician Assistant came in looked at me and ran out the door. Her comment, "OH MY GOD, DID YOU SEE HOW RED HE IS?!!!!!" Normally I have an olive toned complexion, it was kind of funny to see and hear her reaction.

I also have a close friend that never seems to be clear of it.

Now that you mention alcohol, and red meat it just hit me, my buddy drinks plenty at home and eats red meat like he is from Jurassic Park.

May there is something to what the doctor is suggesting.

Good luck with it.
