Wisconsin Gov. vs. Public Unions

With teachers now paying an increased percentage of their own health insurance premiums, and an increased contribution to their own pension funds, many school districts have "found money" that used to go to these costs, and can now be used for things pertaining to educating kids....you remember the kids?....like buildings...books...supplies...hiring more teachers...reducing class sizes, etc...all the things that unions who fought the reforms SAID they were concerned about.

Just my hunch that you'd find a correlation between the arrival of the teachers union and the drop in world rankings of our kids

Or an even greater correlation between the rise in the divorce rate in this country and single parent homes.

Pretty sure the correlation between divorce rate and single parent homes would be pretty high. Silly teachers.

an interesting (and under-publicized) consequence of the Wisconsin reforms should not have been hard to predict...but no one was talking about it before the fact...

Supporters of similar reforms (and I'm one of them) should try harder to quantify these kinds of savings to school districts at the time these types of reforms are proposed (or voted on) to help taxpayers and parents realize that there can be tangible benefits to their schools when these reforms are implemented.

Yup, they will have extra money to do alot of the above (doesn't mean they will) and these are good things. Of course, this will be done on the backs of folks who live in the communities and spend their money on the businesses that are also in those communities....but now, without as much disposable income those rabble rousing union thugs won't be able to go and spend so much in said businesses...unless you are of the belief we are all sitting around on our piles of cash and laughing at the suckers who contribute to our wealth ALA King George III.

But doesn't that mean that all the taxpayers will have more money to spend in the business in the communities because there won't have to be levies to find more tax $ to pay for these things? And won't the buisiness owners get to keep more of their money? Somehow, I don't think that small-town commerce will grind to a halt because the teachers now have 3% less disposable income.

Not suggesting it will grind to a hault, but it does effect quite a few people. Are you so sure there will be real money savings to the general tax payer? Certainly the need for increased funding/taxes will be curtailed, but what you pay NOW sure as hell isn't getting reduced unless you fail a renewal levy.

It seems like the teachers WILL lose actual amounts in their income whereas Johnny Tax Payer will stay the same. I am NO economist mind you.
