Droid apps

I had an iPhone 3G and AT&T until earlier this month until I hopped to Verizon. They gave me a Blackberry Curve loaner phone until my HTC Incredible arrives, which is supposed to occur tomorrow via FedEx.

I downloaded doubleTwist and am importing my iTunes downloads to it now and know about the barcode app, anyone recommend anything else?

The must-have download (it's not really an "app") is Swype. http://www.swypeinc.com/ It makes "typing" on these touchscreen phones so fast. The beta download may be closed, but I'm guessing they'll open it up again in a few weeks when the Droid X comes out.

Then there's obviously the stuff like Facebook and Twitter. If you travel, I'd download TripIt. Springpad is a pretty sweet app for keeping notes and lists. Documents to Go is pretty good, and you might want to download File Manager or Astro to manage your files. Slacker Radio is nice too for streaming radio, no limits like Pandora.

Trapster is supposed to be a good radar detector app. And I also downloaded the Google Voice app to manage my voicemail, mostly. That's not necessary if you have the Visual Voicemail plan from Verizon, though.

TasKiller (Kills all your apps to free up memory and battery)
Trapster (Shows where speed traps are. Not a radar detector - it's based on user feedback)
TV.com (Eh. Lame TV app)
Where (Shows you what's around you)

Also have tons of games, the most addictive one being Abduction.

What's doubleTwist and Tripit?

Good call, a Task Killer App is essential to save your battery life.

TripIt is good for organizing your travel plans, flight info, stuff like that. Keeps it all in one place. Tells you about delays, gate changes, etc.

Listen is a good one too...helps you find podcasts and things like that. I use it to listen to news recaps.

What's doubleTwist

App that converts your itunes into music files for use on the droid phones... I have it on my home comp now but will have to tell you if it works after I get my phone.

Obviously, facebook and twitter.

I use the AK Notepad for notes--very general and basic, but it works.

Advanced Task Killer is a must-have.

SportsTap is the best score updater. The Sports Illustrated updates are nice and organized for news.

Free Caddie is a simple, free golf GPS.

Many specified sports news apps (CBB Live, NCAA feed, Duane Report, Xtra Point, CollegeFootballTraditions, Stadium Drives, SI, Dawg Pound, Cavaliers Insider, Indians insider, NHL Blue, NFL Mobile, NBA News, MLB News, THN, Sporting News Pro Football, Golf Channel etc. etc. etc.)

Fyi--the ESPN "app" is just a paid version of the browser. I didn't buy it, but that's what I read.

Thanks all for the tips; have downloaded most of them. My phone was delayed for about a week but I eventually got it.

For the record, doubleTwist + Barcode Scanner = most intuitive way ever to get apps. Find app you want on doubleTwist, can its on-screen barcode and hit install on your phone. App installed and works perfectly.

I just finally joined the droid evolution and got the Evo 4G.

Sick.

Considering that I run my entire life through Google and the fact that the phone itself is straight bad ass, it gets ten stars.

That 4.3" screen on that phone is absurd. If Sprint's network in Ohio was any good, I would have had a tough choice. HTC knows what it is doing.
