Ohio's Major Cities Deteriorating

Just from experience (not statistical data, but even if I were to pull stats up I think they'd be in favor of my reasoning) I feel as if major cities in Ohio are getting worse and worse financially. I've been to Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo and all seem to be getting worse with unemployment and lack of city development. I find this true especially compared to southern states that I have traveled through such as Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and even Kentucky. Is this a result of individual city representatives or our current governor or a combination of the two? It seems as if the southern states that are represented by fiscal conservative policies are doing better despite the nationwide struggles economically.

Huge industrial cities that are on the decline will naturally look much worse then cities were all development is rather new. Just an anecdotal observation, on top of the usual suspects. Poor leadership, entrenched labor unions, non-existent business community and the like...

I know dozens of union workers myself and about 83% of them love 'em.

In all seriousness though, I hear you, there are greed whore unuins out there, no doubt. But in some areas of business they help Americans earn a good living. I am against closed shops, I think workers today should be able to choose if they want to join or not.

My take on unions:

Shop workers are lazy. Their unions protect the lazy and incompetent and if you work too hard and make someone look bad, you'll get your tires slashed.

The stewards are lazy back-stabbing theives who will sell you out to 'The Company' for the right management job as fast as they'll carry a strike sign. The higher-ups are after the free vacations and meetings on "union business"

The building trades union workers actually work for a living....hard. There are some trades that you would never, ever want a non-union worker to perform.

If you are sitting on the bench out of work its because the word is out you're a lazy fuck and no one wants your whining ass around

In regards to unions and production in manufacturing you're spot on, for the most part laziness s rewarded. IMO ALL manufacturing production should be piece work, too difficult to do for small business but for moderate to large it should be a must.

The trade unions are different, for the most part they do work hard, however they do get away with plenty of slacking and extra "perks" often on the taxpayers dime.
