Drive Thru Dilemmas

Unread postby fundamentals » Sat Oct 17, 2009 11:52 am

I am sure it's been posted on here before, but anyone have issues when going through a drive-thru of a "fast food" restaurant? It would seem almost every time I go through one any longer, something with the order is screwed up. Drives me kwazeeeeee. :gah:

And then you get home and realize something is messed up and you're too lazy to go back and get what you ordered.

Interesting trend in fast food drive thru industry-

I was speaking a fast-food franchisee who actually outsources the stores communication at drive thru. You pull up to order, but are actually speaking to someone in a call-center, who relays the order back to the restaurant for service.

This makes perfect sense for a business driven by volume, but speaks to the "I don't give a sh*t about personal service" attitude held by so many businesses.

I am lazy. Thanks for clarifying. I check my stuff, just annoying to have to almost count on it happening each of the 200 times I do it per week.

I never check mine, but I usually just sit in the parking lot and eat.

I always wondered why people do this instead of going inside. So, why?

If nothing else, going inside saves a little gas each time.

But then you pay a dine-in tax... so it evens out anyway basically.

I've only had consistent problems with Taco Bell, other places here and there.

I, too, check my food before I leave the drive-thru.

I just don't like most fast food. Wendy's, McDonalds, and Burger King are all really disgusting IMO. I will eat Arby's and Chick Fil A once in awhile. I don't think Taco Bell is actually edible, it's recycled food other joints toss out. I do like take out, Chinese food is good, love me some General Tso's chicken.

Oh and Frisch's is pretty good, and the one by me has a Drive Thru.

Weird I agree with CDT on something. I must be getting smarter! I think most has to do with the actual location. It is not impossible to find a McDonalds with good service and consistent quality in their food. I don't mind as much those locations, but when you get a bad one, it causes much time to go by b4 I go to that brand again. Yes, Taco bell meat is rehydrated and thus inedible.

Swenson's is a winner here in NEO/Akron!

Gotta say CDT thinking Arby's is real food as opposed to the others is GD freakin retarded. If anyone's meat is questionable as to being real it would be Arby's.

OJ, you are very right on the location.

West Park McD's is the worst on the planet, the worst hands down. 3 miles away in Rocky River, the best, hands down unreal. 30 seconds to order and get your food. West park it takes 8 minutes regardless of drive thru or going in, or a line or not. I go to McD's once a year now, if I do I will go out of my way to avoid West Park McRetards.

You had to include "retarded"? I never said Arby's had less questionable meat, I just said I like to eat Arby's as opposed to the burger joints. I don't like McDonalds, BK, or Wendy's food. I think it tastes like shit.

depends on where you go...

There's a McDonalds near me that serves nicely prepared food and isn't nearly as greasy as some places. It's owned by a good franchise owner who seems to care about the quality. Still unhealthy as sin though.

Chick-fil-a can be a bit greasy but overall it's good for fast food.

Also, Swensons is damn good. LBJ's favorite hamburger is the galley boy.

My cousin got in trouble while working at McDonald's because he placed tray paper on the counter to catch any burger he might drop. Management said the paper cost more than the meat, don't waste the paper!

All fast food is nasty- but I will admit eating it 2-3X per month. I am a sucker for Wendy's Spicy Chicken sandwich. I can't see an Arby's without Lisa Simpson's "I'm so hungry, I could eat Arby's" ringing through my head.

People eat in their cars so they can listen to the radio, and there are no "no smoking" signs.

I spend a ton of time in my car for my work so I usually have fast food for lunch. I've pretty much gotten to the point where the only thing I eat at the fast food joints are salads.

If I do get burgers I think Wendy's for national chains are the best (if that's saying anything). I also like their french fries if they are fresh.

They usually don't screw up my order either. The best thing I recommend going through a drive thru is do not order anything special (like no mustard for example). The drive thru always screws that up.

I usually eat in my car so I can listen to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh.....I just had to say that for CDT.

Generally I find inner-city fast food to be worse than suburb fast food in terms of neatness and quality. But a lot also depends on the franchise owners. If you have a good owner, the quality is almost always better.

But Taco Bell is the only place that consistently screws up orders, from my experience, though I don't eat fast food anywhere near as much as I used to.

Thats nothing, went to the one east of CWRU on Euclid in a rather drunken state, we pulled up to order and they said "We got no beans, cheese, or beef, whatchu want?". True Story....

I got some cinnamon crisps.

I was @ Chipotle's once and they said they ran out of rice?

Are you fucking kidding me, rice goes on everything they make unless you specifically tell them NO RICE.

Chipotles should have a conveyor belt full of rice from China to every Chipotles location on the planet, that is how much rice they go through. Capitalism, is it not hard.

If I wait more than 2 minutes to get my order taken and food served I leave anymore, regardless of the joint. I could kill someone and eat them by then.

I went to KFC once and they told me they were currently out of chicken. I'm crappin' you negative.

And, this recent "Kentucky grilled chicken" development just makes me sad. (Although, I'm don't why because I don't think I've actually eaten KFC in the last 4-5 years.)

Yep.

McD - Double cheeseburger meal
Arby's - Medium regular roast beef combo
Rally's - Bacon N Swiss Buford combo
Taco Bell - Chicken burrito and 2 hard tacos minus lettuce
Burger King - original chicken sandwich combo
Swensons - bacon cheeseburger with fries

It's so simple, can be cheap if you do it right, and almost always tastes good.

But, I don't really like fast food for dinner. I much prefer a home-cooked meal at dinner after a fast food lunch.

Totally agree with you here, ST... I love Swensons and although the Galley Boy is great, I prefer to roll with the bacon cheeseburgers.. also, gotta go with the potato wedges with cheese and jalepeno..

I love me some Rally's too but they are never in a good spot. They are either gotta in college towns like Bowling Green or in areas of town so bad the value meal includes a car jacking and free bullet.

In 'n Out is the most overrated, overhyped burger chain in existence. You would think they are the be all end all of burgers. They're better than just about any of the trash other joints sell, but better than trash doesn't mean gold.

I'm trying to live a lot.

I eat various and sundry animals. But fast food does make me angry, can't help it. I know it's all individual choice/responsibility, but seeing obese kids waddling around because they eat that garbage multiple times a week makes me sad. Plus, you know, when I do eat it I usually end up with explosive diarrhea. THAT makes me angry. You live in the West, you must know what it is like driving through some of these states and there being no other choice as far as food goes for hundreds of miles.

BTW I prefer wheatgrass juice with a nice sprout salad.

No I get it, it does drive me nuts when I see fat 10 year olds running around. I get that, but they arent my kids, there isnt much I can do. There are alot worse things that happening to kids than being fattened up before they reach puberty.

I definetely know what it is like not having any decent options while out on the road, honestly that is pretty much the only time I eat fast food. I actually have a Sonic and Chickfila with in walking distance to my apartment, and while I do get an occasional chicken sandwich, I try to avoid it so I am dont pack on the lbs. That is the only reason I dont eat it, I love the favor, dont like a huge waistline. But dont get me wrong, I know it is freaky, unhealthy, and barely food, it just does taste good every now and then.

ps move to boulder, tons of dining options for you ;-) ;)

LOL more than the Bay Area?

Boulder is pretty crunchy, but I think Berkeley has it beat (don't live there, but close enough).

No, Boulder is not nearly as cruchy as Berkeley, didnt know you lived in that area. I will say this though, Boulder is about as crunchy as I can tolerate. Imagine me, wandering around Boulder and attending class at CU. I'm slightly outnumbered.

My biggest thing with fast food is simply this...

I know it isn't good for me, I know it will won't sit well after I eat it, I know there is a 50/50 chance that it won't even taste that good and I God damn well know it will not look anything like it does on the menu board, but for love God just make the experience fast, that is all I ask. If I wanted a healthy, soothing, very tasty and delicious looking meal I would do it myself. I just don't want to spend the hours time to do it all so please, pretty please with sugar on top can you make my fast food fast.

You go to Hershey PA and 5 miles away you can start smelling chocolate in your car

You go to Bezerkley and it smells like curry and BO. Its a piss hole and the last thing I'd do there is eat at a restaurant

...but that's just me....

The only drive-bys I do are Wendy's and Arby's

Maybe you should get out of your bubble once in a while instead of taking Rush's word for it.

Only thing worse then going to a fast food joint and seeing some 300lbs 8 year old, is practicing self control and moderation, but yet sill hear some preachy vegetable eating holier than thou clear colon hippie tell you how bad it is.

Not saying this is you aoxo1, but in this thread you are the closest. To be slightly even handed, since I am also a mindless ditto-head, I've never been to Berkley or SanFran so I won't out of hand rip those cities just cuz the politics... Fuck PITTSPUKE THOUGH!
