Bush woulda bombed the IOC had they rejected us. Next six Olympics woulda been in Austin.

Swing and a miss.....................

Unread postby fundamentals » Fri Oct 02, 2009 1:28 pm

Pres. Obama's attempt at wooing IOC into bringing '16 Summer Olympics to Chicago failed. Rio De Janiero was awarded the games over Madrid in the final round. Chicago didn't make it past the first round, shocking. :lmfao:
"It's all about winning for me, and I think the Cavs are committed to doing that," he said. "But at the same time I've given myself options to this point, and like I said before, me and my team, we have a game plan that we're going to execute, and we'll see what we get."

Obama-Rama is on a roll these days. I guess sending Michelle over there to snap her fingers and talk out the side of her neck to the committee wasn't the best course of action. :nanner:

Yeah I have really paid attention to this as I was living in Chicago for most of this. You cant argue with giving it to Rio as South America has never hosted the games. Just hope they put away some money for paying off ransoms from kidnappings.

The IOC is mainly run by the elite in Europe, and you have to wonder if Chicago had too much entitlement going as it ran people like Oprah out to speak on their behalf. Obama I understand as heads of state have recently gotten in to this, but I just wonder if this denial of the game wasnt just done out of spite.

However, Chicago cant afford those olympics. They are laying off city and county workers as it is. Their budget is beyond fucked. As much of a economic boom it would have supplied, I cant imagine the positives out weighing the negatives. The IOC is a little too full of themselves when it comes to the host cities. The fact that Chicago was going to build a 300 million dollar TEMPORARY stadium is just a little absurd since they have Soldier field sitting 5 miles away from the proposed site. So what if it only holds 60K and not 80K. It is already built.

Now that Chicago got denied, I have been hearing Denver is going to go full bore in to trying to get the 2018 games. That I can support because they have most of the infrastructure and the Winter games have to be cheaper to put on (that last statement is pure speculation though). The biggest thing they have going against them is they are the only city to be awarded the games only to have to give it back when the citizens revolted.
In the end, we're all "only for a limited time," you guys.

Chicago was a 4/5 favorite. Yesterday.

Major embarassment for Obama.

The decision likely had little to do with him, despite the headlines. But he would have gotten the credit if Chicago had been selected, he looks incompetent now that they haven't.

Frank Jackson > Obama...

Little absurd for him to get credit if Chicago lands the games. Just as absurd that he is getting pelted now after the swing and miss. However, that is a thinking man's reasoning, and today that is the minority...

Can we combine this thread with this one?

Waiting for Jesse Jackson to proclaim the IOC's racism.
