The French. Why did they have to do a study for this? You could have asked 1000 random people and 90% would have guessed the French as biggest assholes.

Reasons: They don't bother to learn any of the language of the country their going, then get pissy when people don't understand them. Also, they don't tip.

And the French response (in true French asshole tradition): "Our country is so magnificent, nobody ever leaves for vacation, they all stay here."

The Japanese ranked as the best tourists, also not a stretch as they are generally very polite.

Eh, the one french transfer student to my high school senior year a couple years back was a really nice guy, actually was a huge American football fan and played on our team for the year he was here. He actually was a Browns fan too. But I think the reason for all of that was because he was from the country side rather than Paris, which is where the real A-holes come from.

I don't disagree but as a point of order, this was a world traveler poll, with the 4,500 people polled working in hotels all over the world.

I guess the difference I see between French tourists and Asian ones is, French people are usually assholes on purpose; if Asians are rude, it's usually because they don't know any better. They come from a very respectful society.

To be honest, i've traveled more outside of the US than in it, so I haven't encountered that many tourist. There were some assholes in Vegas, they were from Vermont.

When I was at the Grand Canyon, this bus pulled up and about 80 Asians got off. They spent 20 seconds looking at the canyon before a squirrel wandered by. The Asians immediately turned and began snapping photo after photo of the squirrel, completely ignoring the Grand Canyon.

I remember reading an article like this one a year or so ago about a poll taken then, and it basically put Americans in the middle of the pack. The general reason was that there are some number of stereotypical obnoxious Americans who travel, but there are enough other Americans (including those who make an extra effort to not be the stereotype) that it balances things out.

There's a pretty good reason masses of people from around the world have come to settle here. How odd is it that a country would have a motto like "e pluribus unum" or document that they believe all men are created equal due to God's design?

I'd say it's the high minded ideals that we don't always fully operate under but we do aspire to. Those ideals are transferable.

We also have no aristocracy. No royalty. Our political theory doesn't center around the head of state.

So do I think the US is the greatest nation on the planet? Yes. I'd betcha most Americans feel that way too and I don't see that changing any time soon.

They only buy American (talking cars actually made here, not just a big 3), check the label on everything they buy and do all they can to buy American and union. I agree, Economy number one issue, and I wasnt blaming the problems in the midwest on Democrats, I wouldnt blame it on any one paticular thing or person. I drive a GM now, same as I've done for every vehical since my first 20 some yers ago. God knows not out of pure best product evaluation, but becasue it matters to me.

I'd buy more American if I could. When I look for something, I will pay a few $ more if I have a choice between USA widget one and Asian widget 2. But we don't often get that choice, where it is Target or DoCut True value hardware.

I drive a GM now, same as I've done for every vehical since my first 20 some yers ago.

I'd buy more American if I could. When I look for something, I will pay a few $ more if I have a choice between USA widget one and Asian widget 2. But we don't often get that choice, where it is Target or DoCut True value hardware.
