The motivations of Arab street protesters are hard to read. Some seem sincere, some just want to stab foreign people.

Yep. 46 sexual assaults and that's only what is reported.

As liberal as Maher is, he has the lie of cultural relativity thing down.

But yeah, let's take a theocratic society with a culture of sexual repression and mysogyny and declare it ripe for western style democracy. And those are the "good" guys opposing the muslim mafia errrrr brotherhood.

That POV is bananas even prima facia if you can think yourself out of a paper bag. I suspect not even the neo-cons really believe it, but it's a great myth to install a corporate freindly government on the backs of US fighting mena nd women and trillions of our tax dollars.

OTOH, who in their right mind goes there as a female white reporter?

To be frank, what reporter period goes there, none of what they report is really news to any of us.

Protests and violence from that part of the world, I've never heard of that before. The next thing you'll tell me is that there was a murder in Chicago.

You might not be interested, but that's different than "not news" isn't it?

What a fucking stupid, arrogant statement.

Just because you enjoy being ignorant of world events, doesn't mean the rest of us do.

Ignorance has nothing to do with it. It's always rather shocking to here about the turmoil in that part of the world. <---sarcasm in case you can't figure that out on your own CDT. Hmm let's see, if I'm a reporter (and from the west) what are the odds my life is in legit danger if I go to that part of the world to report on those yahoo's activities? As opposed to I don't know, not going...

Reporting news to the rest of us in the world isn't worth losing one's life over.

From now on, reporters should always try to keep themselves out of harms way at all costs.

They will no longer cover the following.

Wars
Dangerous weather
Any type of foreign unrest
Police standoffs
Terrorist attacks
Hazardous material spills

But fear not, you'll get all the information you can handle on your local Rotary Clubs, Bake sales, and Dodge Dart Owners gatherings.

Also, FUDU is starting his own newspaper dedicated to totally safe events. Tyler Kipple's Chuck E Cheese 9th birthday party should be pretty damn cool. His reporters will get every scrap of info. Pizza toppings, gift opening, number of balls in the pit, and who wins the ticket count and gets that awesome plastic parachute man.

Ya this is major news and possibly the true evolution of the Arab Spring. You have the most important country in the Arab world first casting of a dictator and now a Islamic fundementalist. Even a casual following of the events leading to Morsi's "eviction" should give hope that Egypt may find a legit "democracy".

It's odd really, seeing backlash against fundamentalism. It's happening in Turkey too, as soon as Erdogan started curbing rights, the streets filled with people.

If we stay out of it, Egypt now has the potential to suck in every Al Qaeda wanna be martyr for the next half-decade & get us on the sidelines of this non-sense & out of the crosshairs.

I just don't believe that any US presidential candidate (unless they are from The Church of the Aryan Brotherhood party or similar) is ever going to turn their backs on Israel. And as long as Israel is in the Middle than the US will be in the Middle East.

Do I adovocate this? No. But geopolitically I do not see it changing in our lifetimes.

Concur. Then again, Dick went to China. The wall fell. That's thie thing about hiostory. Yah never, ever know.

The beauty of this is if Israel stays chill they can have the radical attention focus on the Egyptian non-radical islam coalition and ride the train just as well.

They machiavellian key here is not to get all emo when the bodies hit the floor.

Maybe, but the the trend line is not looking good. The PRC and a divided Germany resulted from chaos at the end of WWII. So when Kissinger cozied up to Mao, China was more concerened with the Soviets and wanted the US on their side. They were motivated. The Wall was up for less than 30 years.

The Middle East and the Muslim people who inhabit that part of the world have continually been the bitch of some invading power since the 11th century or so. 1,000 years of hatred of all things infidel isn't going away anytime soon.
