This happened in Pakistan, not Libya, but that makes it no less relevant, hilarious, or awesome.

An Army Ranger was on holiday in the depths of Louisiana, where he tried to buy some Alligator shoes. However, he was not prepared to pay the high prices. After failing to haggle the vendor down to a reasonable price level, he ended up shouting "I don't give two hoots for your shoes, man, I'll go and kill my own!"
The shopkeeper replied, "By all means. Just watch out for the two Marines who are doing the same.
"So the Ranger went out into the Bayou, and after a while saw two men with spears, standing still in the water. "They must be the two Marines," he thought. Just at that point he noticed an alligator moving in the water towards one of them. The Marine stood completely passive, even as the gator came ever closer. Just as the beast was about to swallow him, the Marine struck home with his spear and wrestled the gator up onto the beach, where several already lay. Together the two Marines threw the gator onto its back, whereupon one exclaimed "Damn! This one doesn't have any shoes either!"

Aaaaaand the truth comes out. Finally.

http://news.yahoo.com/state-dept-reveal ... 00114.html

When Stevens finished his final meeting of the day, he escorted a Turkish diplomat outside the main entrance of the building. The situation was calm, the officials said, and there were no protests. Five U.S. agents and four local militiamen were providing security.

A little more than an hour later, around 9:40 p.m., everything changed.

The compound's agents were alerted by loud noises, gunfire and explosions near the front gate. A barracks near the entrance for the local militiamen was burned down. In the control center, agents watched on cameras as a large group of armed men flowed into the compound.

A six-member quick reaction security team arrived on the scene from its compound across town, the officials said. About 60 Libyan militiamen accompanied the team, and it again tried to secure a perimeter around Stevens' building, taking turns searching inside. Taking fire, the Libyan forces determined they couldn't hold the perimeter. An evacuation plan was quickly put in place to retreat to the reaction force's compound.

I'm now angry about Libya. This should NEVER have happened to an American embassy, let alone one in a tumultuous hell hole like Libya. Higher ups need to be held accountable. Its an absolute outrage.

Ambassador Stevens had begged for more security in the weeks before he was killed, and the U.S. was warned of a possible attack like this on Sept. 11. They were even given the right date. I am so pissed right now.

Though some administration officials had initially said that the attack grew out of protests over an anti-Muslim film, the senior State Department official told reporters today that "nothing was out of the ordinary" on the night of the attack.

What a bizarre coincidence that Romney was acquainted personally with one of the two ex-Seals.

The White House knew hours after the attack that it was a planned terrorist attack, with al Qaeda influences, and had zero to do with the stupid video, but for a WEEK they trotted out Obama, Hillary, Susan Rice and Carney to purposefully lie to the American people about the nature of the incident.

The media response: "But...Big Bird!"

All they had to do was come out and say "This is an ongoing investigation into the tragic deaths of American personnell in Lybia. Details will be made available as appropriate." Instead they had to lie. Not just little white lies, but big, stupid lies that were almost assuredly going to be proven false in the very near future. Stupid, just plain stupid.

I read somewhere that the "video" had something like 500 hits on it before the Libya mention. Any way to verify that? Some kind of trending stats on youtube? You young'uns who think Barack will clean up in the foreign policy debate are not paying attention. This is very much a "what have you done for me lately" world, and this Libya mess might just be the final downfall of Barack.

It should be...we've impeached Presidents for lesser lies...but only if the lapdog media take time out from the Obama campaign to report on it.

Yes, the video had only a few hundred hits before our own administration mentioned it three or four times in addresses to the world in the hours and days following the attack.

More and more coming out today about how diplomats begged for more security in the months (April and again in July of this year) before the attack, and were rebuffed by State Dept officials. The message for our ambassadors and diplomats is that if you want to be protected by Barack Obama, put on a suit of bright yellow feathers.

The media is starting to circle and ask questions. Jake Tapper from ABC News, pressing the simple question. It's always the cover up. I almost feel sorry for Jay Carney here searching for something to say.

For fiscal 2013, the GOP-controlled House proposed spending $1.934 billion for the State Department’s Worldwide Security Protection program — well below the $2.15 billion requested by the Obama administration. House Republicans cut the administration’s request for embassy security funding by $128 million in fiscal 2011 and $331 million in fiscal 2012. (Negotiations with the Democrat-controlled Senate restored about $88 million of the administration’s request.) Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Republicans’ proposed cuts to her department would be “detrimental to America’s national security” — a charge Republicans rejected.

So, House GOP members vote to cut embassy security by nearly $400 million in 2011/12, an embassy is attacked and a diplomat killed, and this is all Obama's fault. Straight out of the GOP playbook. (Don't get me wrong, the White House should have been truthful from the very beginning but this is a different matter entirely.)

Through their outbursts, cryptic language and boneheaded questioning of State Department officials, the committee members left little doubt that one of the two compounds at which the Americans were killed, described by the administration as a “consulate” and a nearby “annex,” was a CIA base. They did this, helpfully, in a televised public hearing.

Then, to make matters worse, these geniuses (Issa and Chaffetz) called a public meeting for the purpose of embarassing Obama and instead, outed a confidential CIA base. On public television.

A good citizen would not be trying to pin this debacle on President Obama. Or the State Department. Or the CIA. Or the Republicans.

An American ambassador has been killed. An American ambassador who took the job believing that his employer would make every attempt to keep him safe. It didn't. The fault lies with the inherent inefficiencies of the federal government.

If we are to climb out of this debt-ridden economy, every government entity will face cuts in the future. They'll have to start spending money judiciously — using common sense — rather than willy-nilly. That means providing more security at embassies in Lebanon and other high-risk areas, rather than those in low-risk countries like France, Germany, England, etc.

We must elect people who know how to EFFICIENTLY use the funds they've been given, through the good grace of the nation's taxpayers. This wanton spending on shit that ONE legislator or ONE lobbyist or ONE special-interest group requests has got to end. It will, or it will be the end of the country as we know it.
