Shoot 'Em Up

New movie that just opened with Clive Owen, Monica Bellucci, and Paul Giamatti. It's a comedy/action/satirical film. The plot is silly and sketchy while the action is amazing and outlandish. That's really what makes the film work so well. It's non-stop and features some of the best gun fighting sequences I've ever seen. They raise the stakes throughout the film and give the hero a favorite vegetable to use on bad guys.

The film is so absurd that it will make you laugh and clap your hands with glee. The body count is high and the fun is too. Great flick.

I still wish that Owen would have gotten the 007 gig. Craig did well in Casino Royale, but Owen just seemed like the best fit to me.

Oddly enough, I first came across Owen when he starred in a computer game, Privateer 2: The Darkening, about a decade ago. Owen, John Hurt, Christopher Walken, Brian Blessed, David Warner, and Jurgen Prochnow were all in that Wing Commander spin-off game. A damn good cast. I knew of all the other actors, but Owen had been largely confined to Britain at that point. I've been happy to see him get good roles that have gotten him international recognition over the past few years.

Review is up...I normally don't like commenting on the boards prior to me reviewing a movie.

Biggest guilty pleasure I've had all year.

Totally stupid...but man, it was fun to watch.

A for sure rental for me. Gratuitous sex, violence, and two of my favorite actors.

I agree. I went into this thing knowing that it wasn't going to be a serious film and I had tons of fun. Intentionally stupid and outrageous film.

The only thing I'd add to your review, Mitch, is that I'd qualify it as an action-adventure-comedy-thriller AND satire. It had a little of all of that.

Rich, I know with the family and all that it's probably tough, but if you get a chance to see this on the big screen it is an awesome experience. It's a definite buy on DVD for me.
