Taking something from another thread and giving it one of its own, it's my belief that 2006 was one of the best years in recent history for movies.
I counted 15 movies that will crack my 200 of all time when I next revise it, and I highy doubt there are many other years with even double digits.
This is how I ranked em ....
1. The Departed
2. Babel
3. Letters From Iwo Jima
(All three will be top 40)
4. Borat
5. World Trade Center
6. United 93
7. Casino Royale
8. Thank You For Smoking
9. Lucky Number Slevin
10. V For Vendetta
11. The Queen
12. Blood Diamond
13. Apocalypto
14. The Illusionist
15. Flags of our Fathers
What was your favorite movie of the year? What does your top five look like? Am I nuts in my thinking that '06 was that damn good for movies?

Can't disagree with any of them, although I wasn't as enamored with Lucky Number Slevin as Swerb...and I'm still not up to watching "United 93"
"World Trade Center" was the second best movie of the year, after "The Departed".
I changed my mind on "Babel" after panning it in my review, but then re-watching it without the burr up my ass...it's damn good.
To Swerb's list I would add "Children of Men"...which I know he wasn't thrilled with, but I thought was magnificent. "Little Children" was also fantastic...although it takes about 30 minutes before it really gets going.
Other good 2006 movies. (but not in a Top 200 all time for any reason)
Shut Up and Sing
Talladega Nights
Rocky Balboa
We Are Marshall
The Last King of Scotland.
