Cool Apps

A thread for recommending apps that you like.

Instapaper

This app kicks ass. It is a must for anyone on twitter. Basically, any (or most) articles that are linked to or you run across can easily be saved to read later. If you are on twitter on your phone or iPad and someone links an article you want to read but don't have time, there is a button "read later" that you hit and it downloads the article to the app. You can read it when er you want without having to track down the link again, if you even remember it at all.

It's $5 and worth every penny.
I got this one rule. I never go out with girls who say "bitchin'".

Murder-A-Dentist. Gives schedules, addresses, and relevant information to help you murder a dentist.

$3.

If you hate dentists so much you should move to England where there is nary a toothbrush to be found.

If any of you use your phone for work Evernote, Sugar Sync, and Lookout mobile security are excellent.

One Touch flashlight has been surprisingly useful. Google Maps as well.

TuneIn Radio and Gas Buddy are musts for me. If you're rooted, Titanium Backup and GameGuardian.

Shazam is a great app for music; listens in and tells you name/artist/album.

The Spotify iphone/ipad app (especially when combined with the slacker app and shazam) has completely replaced satellite radio and my ipod; I haven't downloaded a cd in a year, I just add it to whatever playlist I want on the go.

The Yelp app has a "monocle" feature that lets you point the camera of the phone down the street and superimpose the restaurant names on the map of everything in your immediate vicinity. Besides the gadgety coolness factor of that, it proves pretty useful in the bigger cities.

Genius scan makes your phone a mobile pdf scanner, I use that regularly when im out of the office/house and need to scan/email a document.

TED talks/Itunes U provide some education/smart listening.

Also! Having Dropbox/Ubuntu 1 on all my PC's AND the Ipad/Iphone makes it incredibly convenient for me to transfer files/folders between work, home, and mobile platforms. The 5G of U1 storage combined with the 2.5G Dropbox means I don't have to shuffle things frequently, either.....and I can share folders on Dropbox to friends when I need to get them something in a hurry.
