Dick Winters, 'Band of Brothers' Dead at 92

A sincere Rest in Peace to this man. And I don't offer many of those. Far too few of these men left and I'm afraid that overall, with exceptions, we've lost a lot of the characteristics that made them and this country great. Saddens me.

Dick Winters, a decorated Army officer whose World War II service was recounted in the best-selling book and HBO mini-series "Band of Brothers," died Jan. 2. News reports listed his age at 92.

Getting a little choked up and teary-eyed though I never knew the man. Deaths like this really make it hit home that the greatest generation in American history is dwindling down.

A true American hero. Truly sad loss for the country.

That's sad. Probably seven years ago or so, I actually met one of the guys from Easy Company who was there from the beginning and survived the war. He wasn't really in Band of Brothers, but he was a fascinating man. Truly they were heroes.

God speed, Mr. Winters. It's truly a loss for the whole country.

"When our days run their course and a man like Dick Winters leaves us, time and providence remind us that human beings can do giant things. Dick Winters volunteered to go to war, leading paratroopers into unknown, yet certain, dangers. He led by both command and example; his wartime philosophy was simple -- 'Follow me.'"

He made it back from Europe and lived on his SC PA farm (really one of the most beautiful areas of the country) until he passed at 92.

I'd say he had a nice run.
