Treme

Anyone check out the first episode of David Simon's show Treme? I enjoyed it immensely and am really looking forward to the rest of the season. The music was outstanding and its a great cast of veteran actors/actresses. I found it enjoyable because it didnt have as much of the political tone found in the Wire. The city, people, and culture of the neighborhood did all the talking. Dont get me wrong, I loved the Wire big time, just didnt want to see Simon pigeonhole himself into making the same show over and over again.

I'll watch it on demand, but I'm still sick of NOLA.

How about a show about 35 years of economic destruction worse than what Katrina did?

dvr'd it last night, going to watch tonight.

I'm very leery going into it. I know I'm going to overanalyze it and there will be things that probably turn me off, but hopefully Simon is at least close. I heard Kermit Ruffins is in it though, and I hope they don't douche up his character. That dude is the fucking man in real life, super talented musician.

jb, how krispy is nola (1-10)?

Thought it was OK, but unfortunately for Treme, it directly follows The Pacific. Tough act to follow. I didn't care too much about the characters though.

Watched episode 1 last night. All in all it was good/not great, I'll watch a few more weeks and give it a fair shake. Hoping when they go deeper into character development that they cut out some of the cliche elements. Props for keeping some legit elements in the background and in the dialogue.

JoJo, you get any thoughts from your ol lady or inlaws on what they thought?

I have kept up with it but I will warn it is slow developing. I am sure Simon will tie this all together some how. I do enjoy the majority of the characters and the music is just superb. However I am biased as I enjoy David Simon's work and have no problem waiting as multi-episode or multi-season story arcs are developed.

I had read alot leading up to the premier about how the first 3 episodes would be slow and then it would take off. I watched the first 5, and they were all pretty bad, so I stopped watching. The music is good, but you can do a quick google or youtube search and listen to all the Kermit Ruffins, Trumbone Shorty, or Rebirth that you would ever need to get by. Save yourself 6 hours.
