New Music Releases - What's Good?

Unread postby waborat » Thu Apr 08, 2010 7:54 am

What's been released so far this year that you love?

CDs, singles, videos, etc...what do you recommend?

Been a pretty slow year for me & music until last Tuesday's release of Slash's first solo album...

I've played it about a dozen times in the past 2 days and friggin' love it!!!

One of my favorite guitarists has gone the Carlos Santana route and recruited some of the biggest names in rock music to play with him:

Ian Astbury of The Cult
Kid Rock
Myles Kennedy of Alterbridge
Chris Cornell
Ozzy Osbourne
Iggy Pop
Fergie
Dave Grohl & Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters
Lemmy
Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother
Duff McKagan
and many more...

He hits on pretty much all styles of rock on this thing and everyone's vocals (including Ozzy & Lemmy) are top notch...

His old buddy Izzy Stradlin is the only other guitarist that shows up on the album to play some rhythm guitar...

Love hearing that Myles Kennedy is going to be his frontman on the upcoming tour as I've always thought he had one of the best voices and he shows it on this album as he's the only singer to get 2 tracks...

My favorite tunes from it have been changing everytime I listen to it, but the Fergie track has actually been in my top 3 since the first time (who woulda thought?)

Highly recommended album for anyone into good rock music...

Next up for me is the new Godsmack next month

Next week is the release of Jeff Beck's latest as well as the new Coheed and Cambria.

Also thinking about picking up the David Byrne and Fatboy Slim collaboration that was released this week.

Here is a list of a few bands, that have gotten their hooks into me this past year.

Cage the Elephant. Got to see them last month at the HOB, and best show, I have seen in years. Matt Shultz, the lead singer is Iggy Pop crazy good entertaining. He dived off the balcony into the crowd to finish their show.

Blood Red Shoes. I was turned on to this band, by a poster from here. I cant get enough of Mary. It's what I would call polished punk. They have released a new album recently.

Dance Gavin Dance. They got some funk to their sound, and their lyrics are middle school grade, but their music fosters a good mood. If anyone, knows who they sound like, I would like to know, because I really dig their groove.

I also have been digging anything from Jack White. I have gotten bits and pieces from his library of work, and this guy is genius.

Forgot all about the new Beck release...

Never heard anything by C&C except their cover of The Trooper...

Good stuff?

Ok, so this thread inspired me to look for some new shit. I spent far to much time last night going on one of my scavenge hunts for some fresh sounds last night. Rolling Stones 2010 new bands list did nothing for me. Good musicians, but nothing that caught my ear. I really dig this band, who have been around awhile, just not really have gotten much attention by what I can tell.

The Boxer Rebellion.

I was pretty let down by Rolling Stones best new bands, but after last night, I can see why they ended up with what they threw out there. There is so much rehashed music. It is hard to find something fresh.

Tom Petty's four-disk Live Anthology is really, really good. It's not just one recorded performance, but rather a lot of recordings from over the years. If you're listening to the new radio station V107.9 you've heard a song or two from this set. I have not been to a TP show, but with them coming to Blossom this summer that might change. And because of that show you'll probably be hearing more from this anthology.

O.A.R. just put out a four-disk live performance as well, Rain Or Shine. This one was compiled from a two-night performance. The sound is as good as you'll hear on any live CD. I've been to an O.A.R. show. This really captures the feel.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention my favorite artist, Butch Walker. His newest CD, I Liked You Better When You Had No Heart, came out last month. Full of melodic tunes that tell good tales. I'll be at his Beachland show in May.

Of, and of course Justin Bieber just put a CD out!

Yeah, I was a little surprised it only had 10 tracks?

The bonus tunes are on the Jap release, not that they really needed to release Whiskey Hangover again?

I'd go if there more than 3 bands I liked playing. Mastodon, Helmet and Zombie ain't worth the price of a ticket. Plus I only want to wear Zombie's stuff from White Zombie to Hellbilly. He newer stuff is horrible.

Odds are you'll go the rest of the year and not hear a better CD than Carole King and James Taylor Live at the Troubadour. Fantastic songs, even better sound, and a DVD to go along with. Superb, and I'm calling for a Grammy nomination.

Missed out on Interpol's release this year, thanks BP.

I'm not real big into hip-hop and R&B, but I've absolutely loved B.O.B's B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray. Kid is only 21 and can legitimately play three or four genres of music well.
