Anyone catch this tonight? I thought it was well-done. The basic story of the original was a good one (essentially it's the story of Nazi Germany...how the Nazi's came to power and what happened after they got there...told with space guns and aliens), so they've got a head start as far as an overall plot is concerned.
But yeah, the show definitely has promise.

Here's somebody else's take on what the show is based on...
http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertain ... 2976.story'V' Aims at Obamamaniaexcerpt:
The news media swoons in admiration -- one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: "Why don't you show some respect?!" The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: "Embracing change is never easy."
So, does that sound like anyone you know? Oh, wait -- did I mention the leader is secretly a totalitarian space lizard who's come here to eat us?But no, I did not watch.

I didn't watch the new series but over the weekend the SciFi channel showed the original V mini series. I sat and watched all of it Sunday while the wife was out and the boy played and napped. I only watched it to see the lizard baby being born
Galley Boys are slop on top of a so-so burger and a bun you coulde get from a Covneninet food mart generic pack. They the Antoine Joubert of burgers; soft, sloppy, oozing grease and cheap sauce and extremely overrated by a biased fan base. Proof that if you throw enough cheap sauce shit on a burger you still can't overcome the lame burger. -JB

For the most part I liked it. Good first effort. I liked that they seem to be moving it right along, no dilly-dallying (yes, I just wanted an excuse to write dilly-dally). I don't remember the first series much, but I like aliens and other crap like that.
My main critisizm - The Lost Chick's son. He completely sucks. He's supposed to be 17 but he acts like a 12 year old jerk-off. Very poorly written. And, I don't think he looks the part for some reason. I hate his face.
And his fat friend...Good God, could there have been a worse casting decision? He's worthless. I cringe at his every line of dialog and reaction shot. He's absolutely terrible. It's like they wrote him in at the last minute but didn't have an actor. This kid just happened to be delivering pizzas to the set and they threw him in. I hope he dies soon and a better written character played by a better actor gets written in. I don't care if it makes sense. Just do it.
On the plus side, the Alien chick is perfectly cast. Couldn't have done better.
I'm giving it a chance.

I watched it as well. It definately keeps you interested. I caught some of the original ones on the sci-Fi channel as well, but don't really remember much of them other than the aliens eating mice part. The lead "Visitor" is hot and will keep dudes watching, but how for how long?

I think this version of "V" is going to be really good. The show needs special effects, and the technology is so much better now, so that immediately gives it a head up on the original.
I loved the original. I was a kid and a sci-fi geek.
I bet ABC moves the "Lost" writers over to "V" after that series ends.
This show does have potential if they write good scripts.
And the son's friend is gonna be the first human eaten by the aliens, and the son is going to be brainwashed like the son of the hero of the first series.
Waiting for the day when "Next Season" actually becomes "This Season."

Good start, but they used up all the twists in the plot in the first episode. They'll need to do some original thinking to keep this show going.
I was skeptical about the show being critical of obamamania until the aliens offered to bring universal health care to all.

I wanted to watch this, but ended up passing.
Reason? ABC is already screwing with it and I think it's going to end up cancelled. So they've already lost a viewer because they're screwing with it.
If it survives, I'll watch Season 1 on DVD and catch up from there.

FWIW, the Pilot got very good ratings. Ratings usually drop after the pilot episode, but they definitely have some room to work with.

I guess Steve isn't done yet. They showed him on the previews for the rest of the season. Apparently being bashed across the head and impaled isn't enough to kill a Pirate.

I finally got around to watch it... and liked it very much.
I'm aware of the original, but never watched it so I cannot compare.
Agree with the son and friend -- just terrible.
Ever since ABC started showing "trailers" to their new show, I've fallen in love with the Visitor leader, Anna. What a babe.
I'll certainly keep watching.

I finally watched it this afternoon with the wife. She had never seen the original, and I had, and I refused to tell her anything about it. She loved it, as did I. I love how they basically compressed the original 200 minutes of the first miniseries into the first episode. Touch all the familiar bases, then bring on the new twists and turns.
The only thing that sucks is that they're only showing the first 4 episodes now, and then going on hiatus until like March.

Yeah. Makes me wonder if it's gonna kill the show. Also, I'm assuming it's going to end on a cliffhanger, which will be frustrating.

I don't think the show will be killed. I think that the 4 week plan was in place since the begining. Anyeay, I heard it got good ratings.
Good episode this week. They are moving the story right along, which is nice.
I still hate the dumbass son and his fat retarded friend. Those 2 are still terribly written and acted. I see no future redemption with those characters. What the hell is wrong with that kid anyway? He acts like that girl is the only halfway decent chick he's seen in his entire life. It's fucking ridiculous.

FWIW, I thought the second episode was a big letdown. Assuming the creators are following the three-act structure, even though it's stretched to four, and there will be a 4th episode cliffhanger, I'm guessing the next two episodes will kick total ass.

I was also let down by the 2nd episode. The only interesting storyline to me is how the black guy is going to get a resistance together.
I also think the police chief is a Visitor.
The son and friend are still terrible. "Two words: Awe. Some." Wow, I hope his fat friend dies first.

Well, Steve the Pirate got offed. So much for that guy.
Speaking of, this show has a fairly healthy Firefly contingent. The rogue FBI Partner (AKA Steve the Pirate) was also Wash the pilot on Firefly, and Anna was the whore.
I'd say Nathan Fillion should get a call, but he's doing a great job on Castle. He was made for that role. Anyone watch that show? They did a halloween episode a few weeks back and he went as a "Space Cowboy" in his Firefly costume. They made a couple jokes about it. Good stuff.
The fat friend cannot die soon enough.

I liked the episode. It's getting interesting. I know that there is only 1 ep left before the hiatus. I'll probably be back.
I was surprised to see Pirate Steve go. I was wondering how they were going to work around the Vs knowing that the FBI chick knew they what was going on. I guess they solved that.
Fat friend might be the worst character in the history of TV (fanbole?). I don't even want him to die. His character isn't interesting enough to deserve some sort of death. I just want him to be gone. Never to appear nor be acknowledged again. They should just go on with the show as if he was never there in the first place. I'd be totally fine with that.
On the other hand, the V Leader Woman couldn't have been more perfectly cast.
I got this one rule. I never go out with girls who say "bitchin'".

I watched episode 3 this afternoon. Three things really bug me.
1) Teenagers in sci-fi shows always suck. J. Michael Straczynski famously declared when he made Babylon 5, "No cute kids, no cute robots, ever..." The whole subplot with the FBI agent's kid sucks.
2) I'm scared this show is being more about twists and turns, ala The X-Files, than just telling a good story, like the original V miniseries did.
3) Morena Baccarin has the wrong head-shape for that haircut, and her overbite is very apparent. Don't ask me why this bothers me, but it does.

Missed last week's. Finally caught up.
Like I said, the 2nd episode was pretty weak, which is probably the reason why I didn't watch last week's until now. But I have to say that the recent episodes have been ALOT better.
Even the scenes with the teens are slightly better, which is saying something, but I'm going to give most of the credit to Lisa. Less cheesier stuff. Still a few overdramatic moments, but whatev.
Overall, the story is getting alot more interesting with the revelation of the 5th Column (right? or 5th Com?).

I just managed to get through the first 10 minutes or so of the 4th episode before turning it off and erasing the show from the DVR schedule. Too much faux-drama, not enough story. Hope those of you who stick with enjoy it more than I ended up doing, because I had high hopes for this show.
