Any of the guys on here actually read any fiction books?

Most of what I see you guys discussing is non-fiction, I'm the same way. But I was curious if there are any fiction readers out there.

Most of my fictional reading consists of the classics like Crime and Punishment, Picture of Dorian Gray and Hemingway and cult novels like Slaughterhouse 5 and American Psycho

I read almost exclusively fiction.

Occasionally read fiction, but the vast majority of my reading is historical and sports-related non-fiction. The only two fiction authors I read with any sort of regularity are Stephen King and Martin Cruz Smith.

Used to read alot of Clive Cussler in middle/high school, but lately I like feeling like I've learned something when I'm finished, so it's mostly non-fiction now.

You'll learn a hell of a lot more reading great works of fiction than you ever will reading non-fiction. About more important things, too.

I've been pimping Jeffrey Eugenides on here for ages, both The Virgin Suicides and Middlesex are fantastic, with Middlesex being my personal favorite.

I read about 2 fiction books a year. I get jaded fast when I read them, always saying things like "bullshit, this could never happen", or "bullshit, that's flat out wrong". Mrs. Warrior reads 2 or 3 fiction books a week. I mean real garbage. Books about vampires banging werewolves and lady detectives saving the world. I can normally turn to any page in her books and find the following words: heaving, bosom, milky-white, throbbing, glistening, fangs, blood, ancestors or half-man, half werewolf.

My 2 for this year are The Last Oracle- James Rollins, and currently The Stand- Stephen King

Wanting to further investigate the literature map, I type in "Dr. Seuss". To my suprise, I see the author Jenna Jameson mapped with Dr. Seuss. Funny, I think, that there is an author with the same name as a famous porn "actress".

It's the same person.

Even better, click on Jenna Jameson and she is mapped along with John Steinbeck. "Grapes of Wrath" and "How to Make Love Like a Porn Star" on the same map. That's cool.

Maybe not.

I really enjoy fiction, but I don't go through it any where near as quickly as non-fiction. I speed read non-fiction material for the most part. I can get all the information that way, but I can't savor a book doing that. It's the rare non-fiction book that I decide to read more slowly. That's usually reserved for a very good history book.

But I love reading great or even good fiction. Love Michael Crichton and was sad at his passing not too long ago. Those books usually gave some thrills and allowed you to pick up some good info. I do tend to favor reading authors from the past more often than not. Faulkner, Steinbeck (only occasionally), Dickens (have really come to admire Dickens), adore Tolkien and have for nearly 20 years, Heller, Orwell, Huxley, Swift, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Shakespeare, Marlowe, Hawthorne, Twain, Verne.

Tons and tons of great stuff.

Just finished The Long Walk by Stephen King (written under his Richard Bachman name). Amazing read, literally the only time I've picked up a book and not put it down until finishing.

King, Connelly, and Koontz are my three.
