Some damn hard choices in there.

Airplane Vs Spaceballs
Spinal Tap vs Shaun Of The Dead.
Super Troopers Vs Animal House.
Kingpin vs Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Clerks vs Hot Fuzz.

Shocked to see Ghostbusters crushing Young Frankenstein. Shocked!

Fletch vs. Superbad and 40-Year Old Virgin vs. Swingers were rough too. Although Swingers is one of my favorites, had to give the nod to Virgin because Swingers isn't as much of a comedy.

Lebowski vs. Mallrats?? Seems like a quarterfinal matchup. Lebowski, only slightly, for me.

Very tough first round match-up. The seeding committee made it tough on these two. I got both these guys in the elite eight and higher.

Also liked to have seen Nutty Professor (remake), Mask, Liar Liar. But thats just me. Some funny films listed there.

A lot of pressure on the committee. Sequestered for weeks on end with no contact with the outside world.

Jesse made a good point when putting this together, questioning the ommission of some Charlie Chaplin films and some other old classics.

My retort? What's really more embarrassing? Omitting the couple top Chaplin films? Or having em lose 90%-10% in the first round to "Superbad"

I liked The Hangover a lot but Forgetting Sarah Marshall is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. It was a really enjoyable movie, whereas even though The Hangover was hilarious, they pretty much just threw everything at you they could regardless of how ridiculous it was--I mean they wakeup and their is a fucking baby and tiger in the room. I thought Forgetting Sarah Marshall was both hilarious and actually a really good movie.

Big ups to the seeding committee. 30 of 32 higher seeds currently winning.

One of the surprises? #9 seed "Planes, Trains, & Automobiles" laying a 80%-20% ass-whoopin on underrated classic #8 seed "Johnny Dangerously".

going down the list...

Johnny Dangerously is underrated. and i just don't think Steve Martin is that funny. sue me.

Waterboy had a tough match up, but shoulda got a lot more votes, movie was absolutely hilarious.

i hate Spaceballs. maybe top 5 least funny comedies i've every seen, glad it's losing.

i love Spinal Tap and Shawn of the Dead. both hilarious spoofs and cult classics.

i voted for Super Troopers over Animal House.

Bill Murry MADE Kingpin. Sarah Marshall was overall a lot funnier start to finish and just a better movie.

never saw Christmas Vacation, but is it really THAT much more funny than Burn After Reading? i voted BAR, that movie was funny as hell.

i liked Wedding Crashers, but i love Billy Madison. Sandler's getting no love in this bracket. at least Gilmore is winning.

i'm amazed by the amount of movies on here i haven't seen: Real Genius, Young Frankenstein, Weird Science, The Odd Couple, Trading Places, The Pink Panther, Ruthless People, The Producers, Monty Python & the Holy Grail, Arthur, Fletch, Slap Shot, Christmas Vacation, Airplane II, Blazing Saddles, Stripes, Annie Hall.

omissions: Beerfest, The Hangover

The Hangover is a clear omission.

Dr. Strangelove? I know it would get crushed but it's gotta be one of the funniest movies of all time. And I think Hot Fuzz is getting a raw deal because not that many people have seen it. Although it's more 1/3 comedy, 1/3 horror, 1/3 action.

Shit dude, how can you vote if you haven't seen half of them? You've missed all the Mel Brooks films and Animal House may be the eventual winner. Never seen Christmas Vacation? I'm a big Coen Bros guy, but NLCV is much funnier than BAR. It's the #2 Christmas movie, only behind A Christmas Story.

What about Die Hard?

Dr. Strangelove, There's Something About Mary, Raising Arizona, Stir Crazy, and The Gold Rush are the biggest omissions IMO.

Raising Arizona, Dazed and Confused, and O'Brother Where Art Thou, are the only ones I felt were snubbed. No big deal, some movies had to be left out.

Raising Arizona has one of the funniest scenes in any movie ever, when John Goodman pulls William Forsythe out of the muck by his ankle.

Wow that was fun. Thanks for putting it together

Toughest in the 1st round for me were -
This is Spinal Tap/The Shaun of the Dead (Dead)
Slap Shot/ The Jerk (Jerk)
40 Year Old Virgin/ Swingers (Swingers) very surprised Swingers is getting toasted.
Happy Gilmore/ Coming To America (America)
*Lebowski was an easy vote for me cause I just love the movie, but I would have voted for Mallrats over many of the other movies.
*Adam Sandler got some really tough draws

Omissions- The Princess Bride, Best in Show, MASH, Brazil, What About Bob?, American Pyscho, Goonies, There's Something About Mary, Dazed and Confused, Rushmore, Some Like it Hot, Zoolander, Life of Brian, Election, Hot Shots, Dodgeball, Meet The Parents, When Harry Met Sally, Moonstruck, The Party

Forgetting Sarah Marshall was great but Kingpin is phenomenal. As said before, Bill Murray absolutely carries it and some of the best lines are at the beginning. Disappointed about O Brother Where Art Thou (sorry, I'm a Dapper Dan man) and Raising Arizona. Very surprised that Real Genius beat both of them out as, though I love Real Genius, I didn't know it was that popular.

Definetly to each there own I guess. My biggest surprises that I don't think should be even this close.

Anchorman vs Weird Science - Weird Science is a classic.
Trading Places vs Tommy Boy - Trading Places is a classic.
Shaun of the Dead vs Spinal Tap - Shaun is just a better movie
Forgetting Sara Marshal vs Kingpin - Forgetting Sara Marhsal is simply one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.
Mallrats vs Big Lebowski - toss up to me but Mallrat seems to keep the humor more consistently through out the movie.

Nice bracket overall. I love some of the classic 80's comedies.

I love Trading Places, but Tommy Boy came out when I was a teenager, so it holds a special place in my heart.

Bad Santa would've been a big bracket buster, alot of people love that movie, me included.

I had seen that movie dozens of times, but it was always on cable. I was at wal-mart with my college roommates and it was in the $5 bin. We bought it, and watched it with a case of beer when we got home. When the scene with Jamie Lee came on we screamed like school girls. It was one of the funniest things that ever happened to me.

Tommy Boy may be the most quotable movie of all time. I can apply at least one Tommy Boy quote to real life just about every day. It's endlessly rewatchable.

Maybe if Eddie Murphy had died young like Farley then he'd be getting more votes.

You cannot make this claim with Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Knocked Up getting killed. Those are two of the most watched movies among this "young 'un" generation that you're speaking of.

Superbad's only winning because Fletch was a horrible movie.

Definitely would have liked to see Eurotrip in this bracket, but it's one of the funniest movies that no one's ever seen.

Trading Places losing to Tommy Boy? COME ON people!!!! Jamie Lee Curtis topless!!!! That's gotta get you a bye in to at LEAST the semis.....

Tommy Boy may be the most quotable movie of all time. I can apply at least one Tommy Boy quote to real life just about every day. It's endlessly rewatchable.

Maybe if Eddie Murphy had died young like Farley then he'd be getting more votes.

Agree, I quote it all the time. Everytime the dog gets in trouble

"Richard, what'd you do?"
In the end, we're all "only for a limited time," you guys.

I didn't even think of Eurotrip. That movie is funny.

Another good one we forgot about: Galaxy Quest.

Do you want to see my balls?

Love that movie. Almost never gets old.

I know it won't win, but Superbad better make it out the first round.

I think Kingpin is funnier than Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but Sarah Marshall is the better movie. As in, Kingpin has better laugh lines, but Sarah Marshall is overall better. And it has a vampire rock opera. And it has Kristen Bell. And Mila Kunis.

Eurotrip is awesome.

Ahhh that was so fun.

There were some that were so hard I basically had to flip a coin. Clerks/Hot Fuzz? Don't make me choose!! lol Hot Fuzz KILLS me everytime I watch it but Clerks is classic.

Definitely agree on a lot of the omissions, but there are so many good ones it's hard to include them all with just 64 spots.

Also love Galaxy Quest, History of the World Pt. 1 ("Inquisiiiiition"), There's Something About Mary, Election, the first few films by the Best In Show guys (I may be in the minority but I LOVE A Mighty Wind), several others.

I foresee there being an Animal House vs. Caddyshack showdown at some point. I don't think I could vote on that one.

History of the World and Something About Mary ... two that clearly should have made the list.

It's tough, every time we do these movie brackets, no matter how hard you vet all the potential candidates ... always miss a couple.

For clarifications sake, "The Hangover" was left out for being too new, and "Major League" ... cause all us homers would have rode it to a landslide title on its message more than its humor.

Going to keep first round voting up till I think Thurs night/Fri AM.

Fletch v Superbad and Tommy Boy v Trading Places ... both near deadlocks with several hundred votes cast.

Handful of others that are close enough to swing.

The scene in the Vatican where they "elect the new Pope" has to be one of the funniest. If Eurotrip is on TV, I can't not watch....

I went into Eurotrip expecting nothing what I got was a very funny movie. Most often it's the other way around.

I have to wonder why "The Pink Panther" was seeded instead of it's superior sequel, "Shot In the Dark".

The Pink Panther is great, but A Shot In the Dark is clearly the classic.

Inspector Clouseau was only a secondary characterin the original. A Shot In the Dark set the standard.

Men In Black!!!

I can't believe I didn't mention that in my original list. Nor has anyone else mentioned it, as far as I can tell. Did we all just forget that movie, or am I the only guy that thought that was a great film??? I thought the actors were great, the effects were great, the concept was great.

Men in Black Who Like To Have Sex With Each Other?

That reminds me, Dirty Work is a definite omission. That movie is awesome.

Exactly. I was ready for a witless teen comedy and ended up laughing my ass off throughout. Very pleasant surprise.

Impeccable job by the selection committee. Seeds really holding. Outside of a couple 9 seeds looking like winners, just Superbad as a 12 seed and the Jerk as a 13 seed (playing each other second round) are the first round upset winners.

Second round looking like it will shape up like this:

* - Still too close to call (voting ends tomorrow)

#1 Caddyshack
#9 Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

#4 Blues Brothers
#5 Ghostbusters

#3 Borat
#6 Anchorman *

#2 National Lampoon's Vacation
#7 Ferris Bueller's Day Off

---

#1 Airplane!
#9 Tommy Boy *

#4 Fast Times at Ridgemont High
#5 This Is Spinal Tap

#3 Monty Python & The Holy Grail
#6 The Pink Panther

#2 Dumb & Dumber
#7 Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

---

#1 Animal House
#8 Kingpin

#12 Superbad *
#13 The Jerk *

#3 Christmas Vacation
#6 The 40 Year Old Virgin

#2 Wedding Crashers
#7 The Naked Gun

---

#1 Blazing Saddles
#8 Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

#4 Clerks
#5 Happy Gilmore

#3 Office Space
#6 Stripes

#2 Old School
#7 The Big Lebowski
