Quantum Of Solace

Unread postby swerb » Sun Apr 12, 2009 11:22 pm

I'll tell you what ... I am a big fan of the new Bond flicks. I think Casino Royale and now Quantum of Solace are quite possibly the two best I've seen, of all the Bonds, all the eras of Bond films.

Liked Casino Royale a little better maybe ... and you really need to rewatch it before seeing Q of S ... because it picks up right after CR ends, and plays off the ending to that film. But another winner in my book.

Non stop action, including another ridiculous chase scene to start this one as well. Daniel Craig is great. As is the eye candy. And the villain.

Can't wait for the next one.

I agree, Swerb. Both of these Bond flicks rocked, although I like Casino Royale slightly better. Solace was easier to watch/understand if you saw Casino right before watchin this new one. If a lot of time elapsed, people complained it was hard to follow.

Solace was still a good film and seemed to set the stage for the movies to come. Also, I think Craig is the best Bond since Connery and represents what I think a secret agent to be : Killer first, lover second. Not always that way in other films..

The wife and I watched Solace this weekend, and I agree with the consensus. Big fan of Daniel Craig as Bond, the action in these last two movies has been awesome.

Right on, I may pick this up this week. I've been meaning to see it but have been blowing it off (too much CoD taking up my daily entertainment time slot). I thought Casino Royale was great but the scene with the chair with the hole in the bottom was brutal. Someone please tell me how that dude ever gets in the sack wth some gorgeous exotic woman ever again after the blows his nads took.

Bond in the desert wearing a tux and gold Aviators holding a silenced automatic assault rifle in one hand? F'ing awesome. Sign me up.

Agreed 100%. Finally reverted the franchise back to action, plot and making you think and away from cheesy gadgets and un believable charachters. Loved Casino and QoS. After I saw QoS in the theatre I felt kind of like something was missing and didn't know what it was until later but after I watched it on DVD I think I like it better than Casino. I think I am just not used to having an open ended plot and not a distinct ending like in previous eras. If anything it makes me want the next installment sooner.

As long as Craig is still involved, I'll still be lining up to see these movies. Q of S was basically a bridge to a third movie, and I love that they're setting up Quantum as the contemporary Spectre. Craig brings a coldness to Bond that we haven't seen since Connery, and he knocked it out of the park in this one again.

I'm sick of the naysayers who want gadgets and giant tanker ships that swallow submarines. This incarnation of Bond is the most realistic we've seen, and with the exception of opening that parachute about 50 feet above the ground in Q of S, there wasn't anything that was too ridiculous is this flick.

Also, maybe the two best Bond themes in the last two movies by Chris Cornell and Jack White. I think this franchise has been rebooted as effectively as Batman was.

I think the last two films have been great. I'm a LIFELONG 007 fan, daddy raised me right. At any rate, while Craig is good, I don't get the "ooooooohhhhh and aaaaahhhhhs" he gets. Fans are so fickle and trends are so cyclical.
Moore was too "funny," so we got Dalton but he was "too serious," so we got "Brosnan" who everyone loved for a movie or two, then he was "suave" so we're now back to a gruffer tougher Dalton. Craigs good, but he's no God.

Ughh. Cannot stand the new Bond movies. They should've called it Quantum of Suckass. IMO there hasn't been a solid Bond flick since Goldeneye.

Agree. Love the reboot of the Bond flicks.

I'd say the last good Bond flick prior to Craig coming onboard was For Your Eyes Only.

Just saw this a few nights ago for the first time. I've seen Casino Royale before, but it was awhile ago, so I wasn't really comparing (though all I remember was that I enjoyed Royale).

I thought it was okay. It sucks that it just has to be the "bridge" between the 1st and 3rd film. Let's hope the 3rd is good. God, I hope so.

THEN... I received my Casino Royale blu-ray in the mail the day after. IMO, compared to Royale... Quantum basically sucked.

BTW -- I got my 2-disc special edition Casino Royale on Amazon for only 11.99. And they have a free trial for a month of free 2-day shipping (though you have to remember to cancel the upgrade that happens after the month, it's easy).

I am totally with Cerebral Downtime on this one. I've seen all the Bond movies, and I for one think Daniel Craig is an imposter into the 007 series. How on earth are you going to say that Quantam of Solace is better than Goldfinger or Diamonds are Forever? I don't mean to sound old fashioned, because I'm not(22 years old), but tend to like the older bonds a lot better. Some of the things I noticed missing when I watched the newer Bonds with craig were the following; Where is the charm and wit that James Bond is supposed to have, where is the suaveness displayed in the past movies, and what is it with this BLONDE hair for god sakes?

Just had to get my mini rant out there about not liking Craig at all. :thumb up:

IMO, best bonds...

1. Sean Connery
2. Roger Moore
3. George Lazenby(I know he was only in On her majesty's secret service)
4. Pierce Brosnan
5. Timothy Dalton
6. Daniel Craig

Bingo. Daniel Craig still has the suave, but more badass then suave... which is much more believable. In reality, if Bond had more suave then badass-ery, he'd be dead already.

And who cares if Daniel Craig has blonde hair? All that is really needed is an English accent. Check.

Yep...Craig is definitely the Best Bond since Sir Sean.

Roger Moore? The more old Bond films I see with him, the more disgusted I become. Gayest. Bond. Ever.

Brosnan? The best before Craig, mostly because he had the suave, and could ALMOST make you believe the action sequences. Too bad he was buried with Moore-esque stupid plot devices ( INVISIBLE CARS AND LASERS IN SPACE MELTING ICE HOTELS!!!!).

Dalton? Zzzzzz

Again...Quantum of Solace wasn't near as good as Casino Royale...but it was the first time they used a movie as a continuation of the last. Given that, and given that the first "Real Person Bond" has emerged from his Post-Vespa funk, I'm very much looking forward to the next.
