Transformers: The NEW Movie

Unread postby consigliere » Sat Jan 20, 2007 12:14 pm

Not the cartoon flick from the 80s, a live action movie.

http://www.transformersmovie.com/main.html

I hadn't heard of this until Mitch mentioning it in the Crystal Ball. Holy Shit, am I pumped for this. A huge transformers dork here, I confess.

But besides that, I checked out the trailer.....wow, I can definitely see the "Independance Day" similarities. Evenso, it looks freaking sweet as hell. Apparently, they'll have the voices and all. This will be amazing if series key stars like Optimus Prime, Megatron and Starscream are all involved.

Wow. I was left stunned after that trailer. Which usually doesn't happen....probably because of the exciting news combined with I never thought they would be able to translate the Transformers to a real live movie. I hope this is not Godzilla-like, but I can't wait for this one, and I expect the hype machine to start with the Super Bowl commericals.

I am pretty pumped for this also
When I heard about the movie, I thought there would be no way it wasn't computer or animated.
Looks to be a pretty solid cast also
Trailer looks sweet as hell.

WHat I haven't figured out yet, is if they will use some of the traditional Decepticons. From the trailer, you see most of the original Autobots, and I guess Optimus Prime does talk......but I am curious what Decepticons they come up with....or even if they use come of the terminology like "Autobots" or "Decepticons."

I have no idea how this movie plays out....but I would think given the series history, this would open the door for potentially a few sequels.

Still think one of the coolest cartoon moments for me as a kid was the debut of the Destructicons.....I remember watching that episode before ever knowing about them, and seeing them all make "Devastator." A huge moment in my 11-12 year old cartoon life. :P :-P

Holy shit. The guy who originally did Megatron's voice (Frank Welker) on TV is doing it for the movie. Sweet.

Same with Peret Cullen who did Optimus Prime for the TV show and movies.

I'm with you guys. I grew up with the Transformers and look forward to seeing how this plays out, albeit I'm not a big Michael Bay fan. But at least Spielberg has something to do with it, so that's a plus.

Maybe I've been a fan of Cleveland sports for too long, but all I can think is they're gonna eff this up big time. I hate the way they look, all spikey like that. I wish they would've kept them more traditional. But it's great that some of the original voices are back (the guy who did Starscream's voice is dead though), and I'm hoping it'll be good. I'm just nervous with Michael Bay doing it, as he has an annoying habit of completely screwing up movies that should be great.

Stewie, my same worries. When viewing the trailer, the Decepticons look a lot like the aliens from War of the Worlds. In fact, this may be a cross between the War of the Worlds movie that Spielberg did and Bay's ID4 movie. Obviously, since both are a part of this.

What I am interested in, is how they incorporate the "voices" of the transformers. Will the dialogue be minimal? Would seem odd to have them talking in a live action setting vs. a cartoon. Also, I wonder how they explain how the transformers adapt to earth vehicles for their transform (cloaking) ability.

I too, am fired up for this. Let's hope it does not turn into another Godzilla like flop. They had better come up with a good story for this and NOT make it a cheesy love story somehow.

http://www.superherohype.com/news/trans ... hp?id=5124

Superherohype has been following this thing pretty well as has Aint It Cool News.

As far as the Decepticons go, both Autobots and Decepticons have a "primordial" form before they come to Earth. Their forms then adapt to Earth vehicles and other items. From what I understand the alien look may be how we see them on Cybertron and how we see them before they adapt.

The thing to remember about these designs is that they really do have to be able to Transform as rendered, so they don't look as smooth as the cartoons. I remember a lot of my old toys didn't look quite so good. Optimus was one of those guys.

Anybody else out there regretting dumping their old Transformers, Star Wars, GI Joe, and Voltron toys? One, many are worth good money on eBay and two, most were pretty cool. I had a huge Transformers collection as a kid, though I did break several of them. The worst was Megatron - a plastic, metal hybrid toy.

Oh, and about ruining the movie, it is possible. We'll see. I have hope that Spielburg as producer will protect it somewhat, though he's had a few shaky films.

Dude. I had everything. I had tons of Star Wars, GI Joe, Transformers, Hee-Man, and Voltron stuff. All of it is gone because I gave it all away to my young cousin when I got into high school. You are right, I probably threw away thousands of dollars on Ebay right there.

I was the same. I had all the Star Wars stuff from all three movies including stuff like the Emperor that you had to mail in for.

I went online a few months ago to check out Voltron stuff and found the die cast metal set that I had as a kid was going for $150+.

I can only imagine what the original Transformers toys will cost if this movie is a huge hit.

I'm going to a Tuesday morning showing at 11:15AM. Can't wait.

Great three weeks for movies.

Live Free or Die Hard.
Transformers.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Then two great DVDs at the end of the month:
300.
Hot Fuzz.

Heh, sounds like me. Unfortunately, I already blew my one movie by seeing Spider-Man 3, which ended up being cool, yet disappointing.

I might take my son to see Transformers at the Highland Movie Theater here in Akron, since tickets are only like $3.

Saw it this morning and WOW!

The most seamless special effects I've ever seen. Loved all the screentime for the new Camaro, a car I've wanted since seeing the concept last year in Ft. Lauderdale.

You get to hear Optimus Prime speak right a the beginning. Unbelievable action and a pretty good plot for a film like this. The two females in the movie are also mega-hot, especially the Aussie. Both of them had me drooling. There's a scene early on that'll get any man's blood boiling. You'll know it when you see it.

Movie's a blast. Better than I hoped it would be. I hope it makes megabucks so we can see Optimus and crew again.

Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime was the highlight. It felt so good to hear that voice. As a little kid Optimus was my hero, so that sent chills down my spine.

The transformations were cool. I'm still in awe of the detail on each transformer.

I did the same and felt the same. Was even more fun the second time around and the theater was still packed. Really great movie to see with a crowd.

It's got it all. Megan Fox. Rachael Taylor. Optimus Prime. Good comic relief. Great action. Transformers.

I think Paramount will green light a second movie pretty quickly.

And dig this, over 10,000 votes already and it's got an 8.4 on IMDB - the rating keeps going up. It's ranked as the 223rd best movie all time. Still got an A- on Yahoo with a record number of people grading it. I think people really, really love the movie. Even the women walking out both times were raving about it. Kicker is that my parents, who bought me my first Transformers for Christmas back in 1984 (I think - and it was a pain in the ass to find ANY of them at the time as they were the hottest thing on the planet) but never cared about them, have shown interest in seeing the movie.

I don't get to see many movies in the theater. The last two I've seen in the theater (excluding kids movies) have been Star Wars III and The Departed.

So I was able to drag Amanda to Willoughby last night to see Transformers. Reluctantly she went, but didn't want to get up 60 minutes into the movie to use the bathroom. Excellent movie. A little bit of everything...humor, special effects, a very hot chick.

Loved the cameo from Uncle Bobby B!

Talk about product placement - GM won't get that much air time from their entire advertising budget. Also thought the parallel between the good Camaro (Bumblebee) and the evil Mustang (Barricade) was a great reference to the on going muscle car war between Chevy and Ford.

Curious if anyone else recognized the same music score being used when they initially approached the Hoover Dam as when the shuttle was about to launch in Armegeddon ?

Didn't know if it was exactly the same but it did sound similar.

I'm amazed at how well this movie has reached across demographics. I know a few women who also were reluctant to see it and left the theater loving it and even wanting to see it again. I think there's something in the movie for everyone. There are plenty of humorous parts (the parents talking to Sam in his bedroom is hilarious), tons of action, two hot women, special effects. A perfect summer blockbuster.
